Call of Duty: Warzone seems to be getting set up for its strangest, most comprehensive event yet, with none other than Godzilla and King Kong themselves making an appearance. The so-called Operation Monarch was being teased for some time now, and it was already pretty obvious that it would be coming out sooner rather than later.

These suspicions about Call of Duty: Warzone's third season of content have now seemingly been confirmed, as the latest leak concerning the game immediately revealed the supposed release date for Operation Monarch. While it goes without saying that the provided launch date ought to be considered with a pinch of salt in hand, it's a pretty reasonable leak, all things considered.

According to the PlayStation Game Size Twitter account, Call of Duty: Warzone's update 1.57 has just been added to the database, and one of the related materials is a proper splash screen for the game's Operation Monarch. While King King in Warzone was teased beforehand, the splash screen spells out that both it and the legendary king of monsters, Godzilla, will both have a major presence in the game starting on May 11.

The earliest trailers featuring Godzilla in Warzone only came out a few days back, and took the community by surprise for the most part. While COD: Warzone has certainly had its fair share of oddball events and developments, few players could've reasonably expected two of the most popular kaiju creatures of all time to make an appearance as well. As the event is seemingly set to launch on May 11, dedicated players won't need to wait all that long to see what Operation Monarch is all about, or what the extent of the monsters' presence might end up being.

It's also worth pointing out that the source of this leak claims that Warzone will be smaller after the installation of update 1.57, which suggests an asset compression of some sort. The extent of this, too, remains to be seen, but COD: Warzone developers said Verdansk might come back in a limited re-release event, and it's entirely possible that the development team would keep reducing the game's size in the interim to keep the file size at least somewhat manageable by the time that happens.

At the same time, rumors are afoot that Warzone 2 could be a new-generation exclusive, which could help keep the game's codebase more sensible over a long period of time. It would also, however, alienate a significant portion of the player base, so it very well could go either way.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
