The Season 5 update for Call of Duty: Warzone is packed with new content, map changes, and gameplay adjustments. One major patch that some players may overlook is the subtle audio change installed by Infinity Ward. Footstep audio has been a major talking point in the Warzone community, so this update is sure to make a lot of players happy.

Audio is a vital element in a Warzone battle royale game. Players are constantly listening for nearby gunfights, vehicles, and other indicators that an enemy squad may be in their vicinity. Footstep audio in particular has become one of the most important audio cues in the game, often indicating that enemy players are approaching your squad fast or already have position in the same immediate area.

Infinity Ward has installed a patch for footstep audio within the Season 5 update, specifically a brief decay period in heavier footsteps when a player transitions from a sprint or tactical sprint to lighter footsteps when walking. The patch has been put in place to address the issue of players' footsteps immediately becoming quiet when slowing down from faster movements. An adjustment in occlusion has also been discovered. Although not directly stated in the patch notes, players can now hear enemies more clearly through surfaces, such as walls, windows, and floors. It's not the first time Infinity Ward has put forth a Warzone footstep audio change. The player community has been voicing their opinion to the developer for a long time now, as footstep audio plays such a key role in the perceived fairness of the game.

A large number of players in any game are likely to be donning a headset while they play, as this has become one of the clearest ways to improve Warzone gameplay performance. The demand for high quality audio is warranted and many pro players and streamers have criticized the game's footstep audio cues as being well below standard. Popular streamer Dr Disespect voiced his opinion on Twitter back in May.

It appears that Infinity Ward has certainly been listening to the complaints. The patch seems to directly address an issue with players using a quick sprint-to-crouch movement as a strategy to go undetected while moving, as opposed to a pure crouch walk, which involves much slower movement. While the patch has only been live since Warzone Season 5's recent update, it will be interesting to see the immediate feedback that circulates through the community as players hone in on the audio adjustments. Some players are already saying that the patch is not noticeable, and that there is a far more critical Warzone gun glitch to be fixed.

Even though footstep audio remains a pain point for many players and may still need future patches, there is still a lot of new and exciting Warzone Season 5 content to engage in. Keep an eye out for future patches and updates via Infinity Ward's weekly briefings.
