Call of Duty: Warzone is closing in on its one-year anniversary, and while Activision has remained tight-lipped as to what content will be coming to celebrate, one new game mode has been revealed. The new Call of Duty: Warzone mode is called Exfiltration, and it introduces a new win condition.

Call of Duty: Warzone’s Plunder game mode proves that alternate win conditions can work well inside a battle royale setting, and another new game mode will soon be introduced that embraces this concept. Exfiltration will see players fighting for control over a radio, with the goal being to hold onto the device for a set amount of time. If held for long enough, the Operator with the radio will call in the exfil chopper, instantly winning the match.

While this may sound simple, players holding the radio are marked on the map for everyone to see. Much like Most Wanted contracts inside Call of Duty: Warzone, marked players will draw the attention of everyone in the match, as the entire lobby will be doing everything in its power to prevent the radio holder from winning.

What makes the early exfil option even harder is the fact that everyone that does not have a radio will be told how long they have until those planning to escape on the helicopter get away, pushing them to attack sooner rather than later.

If nobody escapes using the radio, the match will finish like a traditional battle royale game, with the last surviving team being given the win. A solo and squads variant of the game mode will be available, ensuring that players who enjoy dropping in on their own have a chance to try out Exfiltration too. The game mode is essentially Call of Duty Zombies’ Exfil system with live players instead of Zombies, making for a fun premise that could prove popular with the game’s community.

For fans of Rebirth Island Resurgence, an “extreme” variant will be added to Call of Duty: Warzone next week. Boasting the same rules as regular Resurgence, as players will be able to respawn if their squadmates can survive long enough without them, the key difference is a raised player count. More than doubling the active Operators inside Rebirth Island, Resurgence Extreme will see 90 different players duking it out in hopes to be the final survivor – making an already hectic map and mode even more intense.

Rebirth Island Resurgence will be available as part of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 2’s launch week, while Exfiltration will debut later in the season. Hopefully, both modes remain glitch-free on launch and do not need to be removed like Armored Royale.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
