When Call of Duty: Warzone launched, it only supported three player squads, but it now allows for Solos mode and four-player teams as well. However, Call of Duty: Warzone is still missing a Duos mode, which is standard for battle royale games. While a Call of Duty: Warzone Duos mode release date has yet to be announced, we do know that the mode is in active development at Infinity Ward and Raven Software, and should be coming to the game sooner rather than later.

This was confirmed by Raven Software director Amos Hodge, who spoke in an interview with GamerGen. Hodge explained that there are still some bugs that need to be worked out with Duos, but it should be coming to the game at some point. Hodge also noted that there was already Duos in Warzone for the Plunder game mode, just not for the standard battle royale.

In the interview, Hodge also touched on why Warzone doesn't have numerous playlists all at one time, and the reason boils down to the player count. Hodge said that the Call of Duty: Warzone teams want to keep adding new game modes, but if there were too many playlists, it would cause bad connections and the game would struggle with matchmaking due to the fact that there are 150 players per game. "We're trying to find that balance between the core mode and what we can rotate in and out," Hodge explained.

Rotating content in and out is something that has actually found the Call of Duty: Warzone developers criticized for in the past, however. Some may recall the time when Gunfight was replaced by Gunfight OSP in the standard Modern Warfare multiplayer, which caused a significant uproar, or a more recent example involving the Warzone Most Wanted contracts.

For the uninitiated, Warzone Most Wanted contracts were a new type of contract that players could complete in the game for various rewards. They worked like reverse versions of the regular bounty contracts in the game. Instead of getting a bounty for a specific player, Most Wanted contracts made the player character a target for everyone else on the map. Fans were enthusiastic about this idea at first, but in practice, it didn't live up to expectations, especially since Most Wanted contracts completely replaced regular bounty contracts in the game.

Luckily, the developers quickly removed Most Wanted contracts from Call of Duty: Warzone and put regular bounty contracts back in the mix. Considering this, there's a chance Duos will only be available for a limited time whenever it's added, but hopefully Call of Duty: Warzone's Duos mode is a permanent feature.

Call of Duty: Warzone is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
