80s Action Heroes kicked off in Call of Duty: Warzone last week, and fans have been having a good time with the nostalgia-filled event since its release. While the majority of the other marketing has doubled down on John Rambo’s role, he is not the only action hero that features inside the event. Die Hard protagonist John McClane also features, and Raven Software has done its best to give the cop some time to shine.

Call of Duty: Warzone fans can play as the man himself if they purchase his Operator bundle, with several other items included as well. The most complex of Call of Duty: Warzone’s new locations is also Die Hard-themed, with a special quest included inside the building. With a new game mode included as part of the event as well, 80s Action Heroes is more than just Rambo content. For fans of the John McClane character and the movies where he came from, there is plenty of themed content to enjoy in the battle royale game.

Call of Duty: Warzone’s Die Hard Operator Bundle

Call of Duty: Warzone’s John McClane bundle is available now, though fans should be warned that it can only be purchased for a limited time. The bundle will be available until June 18 at 9PM PT, though once that time comes, it will no longer be purchasable. As such, Call of Duty: Warzone players interested in John McClane will need to purchase his pack as soon as possible, with the launch of Season 4 being the deadline. The pack will cost players 2400 COD Points, meaning that it is on the expensive side. Fortunately, there is plenty of Die Hard content within the pack.

First and foremost, there is John McClane himself. While some have pointed out issues with the John McClane skin like thin shoulders, the overall look is pretty spot on. McClane’s uneven hair is seen, while Bruce Willis’ likeness is easily recognizable on the Operator. The bloody white top is seen as well, giving players access to the hero’s look from the original movie. As for his voice lines, McClane’s dialogue is taken straight from the original movie, with the character uttering iconic phrases like “Yippee Ki Yay.” While some are divided on the lines being ripped straight from the film due to their sound quality, it is nice to hear the same voice from the movies.

Alongside John McClane himself, the bundle is full of neat callbacks. Three weapons blueprints based on the guns from the film are seen, with an SMG, Assault Rifle, and Tactical Rifle all covered in McClane’s blood. John McClane’s watch is included in the pack, as is a Detective Badge weapon charm. A special calling card and emblem are also included, though the star of the show is the “Hidden Gun” finishing move. A great callback to the original Die Hard movie where McClane taped a gun to his back for a sneaky kill, the execution is a ton of fun. As shown in the 80s Action Heroes trailer, any Operator can use it, though it's extra special when performed by John McClane.

Call of Duty: Warzone’s Nakatomi Plaza

While a few Rambo-themed locations were added to Verdansk, Raven Software focused all its efforts on bringing one location from the Die Hard franchise to life. None other than Nakatomi Plaza from the original Die Hard film has been added to Verdansk 84, with the massive skyscraper captured in all its glory. With five full floors seen in the building, players can explore a lot of the on-screen location. Nakatomi Plaza also features some unique objectives.

In Namatomi Plaza, players can complete optional missions. Doing so will help players progress toward the completion of the event, as several challenges are tied to the special objectives. These objectives include defusing C4 on the tower’s rooftop and stopping an Arms Deal, making them a fair bit different from Call of Duty: Warzone’s contracts. However, the biggest attraction is undoubtedly the Plaza itself, as it replaces the Broadcast Tower that used to rest at the center of the Verdansk map.

Alongside a unique exterior that helps it stand out from other locations in Verdansk 84, the glass-covered building features varied floors to explore. Shiny granite floor is seen throughout, with a car park able to be visited below the building. Different rooms boast unique colors and styles, while players can fight on the awnings outside the building. Several staircases can be used alongside some elevators to get around Nakatomi Plaza, with players able to see the offices and bathrooms from Die Hard. A neat easter egg sees blood on the bathroom floor, serving as a great callback to the original film.

Call of Duty: Warzone’s Nakatomi Plaza Side Quest

Call of Duty: Warzone’s version of Nakatomi Plaza also features a vault, and players can open it if they track down a keycard. For each keycard, a Nakatomi Plaza mission needs to be completed. The first is acquired from the C4 defusal mission, while the second is obtained by opening crates in the tower. The third is carried out in the garage, with players needing to take out waves of AI enemies to get the keycard.

Once players have a key, that can open one of the deposit boxes inside the Vault. These include some of Call of Duty: Warzone’s killstreaks, ranging from Advanced UAVs to airstrikes. Other contracts can also be found, making all the potential rewards worthwhile. Players can also open multiple deposit boxes, meaning that completing as many Nakatomi Plaza missions as possible is worthwhile. However, with Call of Duty: Warzone players likely to land at the Plaza often, it may be tough to complete the missions. Still, with such good rewards, visiting the plaza is more than worth the risk.

Overall, the Rambo series has a bit more content in Verdansk, as his Dog Tag collectibles add a lot of depth to the mode. He also brings the Combat Bow killstreak which is inspired by his films, adding to his lineup of content. Still, even if Rambo is the focus, the Die Hard content is still awesome to see. With the complex Nakatomi Plaza building and a bundle full of fun movie references, the John McClane content takes a quality over quantity approach. For those looking to experience it themselves, all they need to do is load up a match of Call of Duty: Warzone sometime in the next few weeks.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
