While Call of Duty: Warzone accommodates all playstyles, just about everyone has needed to make use of Dead Silence in order to find success. However, this could be changing soon, as a counter is in the works for for the powerful Call of Duty: Warzone Field Upgrade.

Prior to this change, Call of Duty: Warzone’s Dead Silence has been uncontested at the top of the Field Upgrade lineup. Having too much utility not to use, the perk’s main function sees footsteps completely disguised for a long window of time. This allows gamers to run up on their enemies without even making a sound, getting a drop on opponents that normally would have heard them approaching. Dead Silence also provides a speed boost, encouraging its users to run often, and it even widens the screen so that gamers can get a better view of their surroundings.

With Call of Duty: Warzone’s console community still lacking an FOV Slider, even the smaller benefit is incredibly useful for some. However, with everyone using Dead Silence because of its many benefits, the game’s meta has begun to get stale. Listening for footsteps is now a thing of the past, as Dead Silence is used so much that it removes a crucial element from the battle royale title’s gameplay. Fortunately, Raven promised some changes, and the studio will be delivering on those changes through an upcoming patch.

The patch notes for the Season 4 Reloaded update finally mention some kind of downside for Dead Silence, and it comes in the form of the High Alert perk. High Alert will be given a significant buff, as the perk can now detect players that have Dead Silence active. While Dead Silence will still completely suppress player footsteps for those that do not have the perk equipped, those with High Alert should be able to hear Dead Silence users just like they would hear an enemy that is not using Dead Silence.

This is one change that should certainly please most Call of Duty: Warzone players, as Dead Silence has become a major topic of debate in recent weeks. With Call of Duty: Warzone’s gun meta being so balanced as of late, the community is now calling for adjustments to other mechanics that are deemed unfair. Fortunately, Raven Software does seem to be taking complaints into consideration, and it will be interesting to see how the game feels once this change takes effect.

With two new Call of Duty: Warzone perks that are exclusive to the battle royale game also being announced, it will be exciting to see these changes go through. Unfortunately, no ETA has been provided for the Dead Silence nerf or the additional perks, so gamers will need to remain patient.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
