With the upcoming release of games like Battlefield 2042 and Halo Infinite releasing later this year, Call of Duty: Warzone will have a lot of new competition to stand up against at the end of 2021. This will likely require Call of Duty: Warzone to evolve if it wants to maintain its current place as one of the biggest battle royales and multiplayer shooters on the market. Of course, this evolution will be helped by the release of Call of Duty 2021 that is still scheduled to happen this holiday season, but there is more that Call of Duty: Warzone could do to help it stand out against its competition.

This is especially true as Call of Duty: Warzone's current competition is not going anywhere anytime soon. Games like Apex LegendsFortnite, and PUBG are still just as popular as ever, meaning that the influx of new shooters will simply add to the massive competition that Call of Duty: Warzone already has. Fans of the game have always called for changes to Call of Duty: Warzone, but maintaining its popularity through the end of this year will likely require some drastic changes and effort from the team at Raven Software.

Call of Duty: Warzone Should Double-Down on Crossovers

Call of Duty: Warzone made headlines earlier this year when it revealed a crossover that would bring the movie franchises Die Hard and Rambo to the battle royale. The crossover included operators as well as new locations in Verdansk that were references to some of the biggest scenes in the movies. While the community's reaction to the skins was not entirely positive, the crossover was still a cool moment for players and gathered a lot of attention for the game. In the future, Call of Duty: Warzone should double down on these crossovers to help it stand out from other military shooters. Fortnite is well known for its eyebrow-raising crossovers, but Call of Duty: Warzone's more mature audience and presentation open the doors to a lot more options for the game to take advantage of.

There are a lot of options for Call of Duty: Warzone to crossover with next, and they would instantly help Call of Duty: Warzone stand out from games like Battlefield 2042 that have never had crossovers in their history as a series. Introducing more crossover events would also allow Call of Duty: Warzone to explore different genres or themes that it usually wouldn't, such as introducing some more sci-fi-themed skins or areas in a crossover with a movie like Independence Day or Aliens. This would help the developers keep things fresh for players who spend a lot of time on the game while also helping attract new players to the game who want to see what crossovers will come in the future.

Call of Duty: Warzone Should Mix Things Up

Call of Duty: Warzone already features multiple modes and frequently gets new content with seasonal updates. However, for Call of Duty: Warzone to really stand out from the other upcoming titles, it should mix the formula up more than it already has. Leaks have suggested that planes may be coming to Call of Duty: Warzone in a future game mode, and that is a great start, but the game could do more. One option would be to introduce game modes that have a larger player count on PC and next-gen consoles. With Battlefield 2042 coming soon its 128 player servers could overshadow Call of Duty: Warzone's, but a new, bigger game mode may be able to prevent that.

Call of Duty: Warzone should also introduce some new game mechanics that are new to the battle royale genre as a whole. When it first launched Call of Duty: Warzone introduced the genre to the Gulag, a small arena where killed players could face off against one another to regain entry into the main match. However, PUBG just introduced a new feature that is very similar to the Gulag. If Call of Duty: Warzone wants to continue standing out from the crowd it's going to continue to introduce new ideas to keep it feeling fresh and make sure that it offers gameplay that no other game can.

Call of Duty: Warzone Needs to Fix its Issues

Two of the most consistent narratives surrounding Call of Duty: Warzone are, firstly, players and fans complaining about the game's weapon balancing and, secondly, the game's constant struggle with cheaters and hackers. Developer Raven Software has made a lot of changes to try and constantly shake up the game's meta to keep things fresh for players, but the game has struggled in the past to keep certain guns from dominating the meta for too long or feeling unfair to play against. With the impending integration of Call of Duty 2021 in Call of Duty: Warzone, it will have to go smoother than the integration of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Otherwise, Call of Duty: Warzone risks losing more players who grow tired of dealing with overpowered weapons or an unbalanced meta.

Call of Duty: Warzone also needs to fix the litany of glitches and bugs that have persisted throughout the game's lifespan. Some bugs, like the immensely powerful invisibility glitch, have even returned after being patched out of Call of Duty: Warzone. With the increase in competition Call of Duty: Warzone will have to finally stamp out those bugs otherwise it may very likely lose players to games that don't have as many issues plaguing their matches.

Hopefully, Call of Duty: Warzone will continue to evolve and make the adjustments necessary for players to continue enjoying the battle royale as time goes on. There are a lot of changes that the game's community would like to see be made, and the new competition has the potential to motivate Call of Duty: Warzone to do so. Until then, Call of Duty: Warzone just released its Season 4 Reloaded update, so there is plenty of new content for players to jump in and have fun with for the time being. Hopefully, players will get a look at what is in store for Call of Duty: Warzone's future sometime soon.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
