Call of Duty Warzone and Black Ops Cold War are no strangers to crossovers. It being the season of scares, Call of Duty Warzone and Black Ops Cold War are receiving Scream's Ghostface as a limited-time operator.

For those who follow Call of Duty's rumors and leaks, this news shouldn't come as a surprise, as Ghostface for Call of Duty was leaked back in August. Those who missed the leak may have been suspecting some sort of announcement anyways as Warzone ran a similarly spooky Halloween event last year, The Haunting of Verdansk. Players could buy the intimidating Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre as an operator as well as find his house while fighting in Verdansk. Last week, Call of Duty announced the Halloween event for 2021, known as The Haunting, running in both Warzone and Black Ops Cold War.

Call of Duty confirmed through Twitter that Scream's Ghostface is coming to Warzone and Black Ops Cold War. Ryan B. of Karnage Clan discovered Ghostface through a Black Ops Cold War glitch, yesterday, showing the villain dressed with his iconic white mask and cloak. Rather than making a separate announcement, Call of Duty quote tweeted Ryan, saying "Shhh... the scares begin" on October 19 along with a clip of an in-game Ghostface shushing the camera. It was a clever move by Call of Duty's marketing, utilizing the leak in Ghostface's marketing.

Though no further information about Ghostface has been released, the operator will likely work similarly to others that Call of Duty has featured. Call of Duty's Rambo operator bundle earlier this year brought not only the classic character to the game but also special blueprints for the AK-47 and M60 inspired by the franchise, Rambo's deadly combat knife, and a host of other cosmetic and personalization items. Ghostface will likely receive a similar assortment of unique weapons—his kitchen knife is visible in Call of Duty's tweet—as well as some Scream-based icons, calling cards, and other decals.

Ghostface is one of the horror cinema's most iconic villains, and seeing him on the battlefield will likely be pretty unnerving. His inclusion may be a little poorly timed, though, as Black Ops Cold War's Season 6 started today, featuring tons of new items for players to unlock and tiers to progress through. Fans who are committed to playing through the paid Battle Pass will also have to pay for Ghostface, which may not be a problem for some, but it is a lot of exclusive coming in a short amount of time. If Ghostface disappears after Halloween, who knows when he will become purchaseable again.

Call of Duty Warzone and Black Ops Cold War are available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
