Latency, lag, and input delay all exist in relatively the same world of science. Major games like Call of Duty: Warzone, Apex Legends, and even Counter-Strike: Global Offensive deal with these problems in their own way. One player decided that they wanted to know exactly how big of an impact photon latency has on Warzone and a series of other titles.

In a series of charts that this fan shared on Twitter and Reddit, he tested the input lag that each game experiences by tracking click to photon latency at an average of 240 frames per second. Call of Duty: Warzone operates at a higher FPS, but he has adjusted as needed to compensate. This standard baseline allowed him to compare between several titles and learn exactly what the difference is between each game.

The chart that Calypto has crafted ranges latency by the milliseconds. This means that the shorter a bar is, the better that is for the game itself. While the difference between each game's response is so small most fans would not notice, players on older systems or low-quality monitors would see a slight difference. What he found was that the average latency between click to photon for Call of Duty: Warzone was 28.92 milliseconds. Comparing this to Apex Legends 11.49 milliseconds, players can see a rather wide gap. Even CS: GO operates at an average of 16.57, well below Call of Duty: Warzone's minimum.

While the images provide the complete setup that Calypto used to test these speeds, he does disclose details of the testing method in the comments below. Simply put, he set up his timers and entered the game. He pressed the left click with a pistol in CS: GO on the map dust2 and recorded the data.

This does mean that if he performed the same test in every shooter all these values look for is the response between click and fire. Movement delay, latency in complicated responses, and other variants of this test are still left relatively unknown. Still, that may be for the better as those discussions may become more complicated than a few graphs could cover.

It is interesting to see the values all put side by side. Call of Duty: Warzone is the heavyweight of the group, so it is no surprise that there is a higher delay than the lightweight experience found in CS: GO. While this information does nothing more than educate, it does provide some interesting insights into the latency expected to be found across a wide variety of modern titles.
