Call of Duty: Warzone fans have seen the Operator lineup grow quite a bit in recent months. Fortunately, it seems like Season 6 will be going out with a bang, as none other than Alex Mason is set to become a Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Operator.

For those unfamiliar with Alex Mason, the legendary character served as the protagonist of the original Black Ops game back in 2010. Brainwashed into being a tool for both Viktor Reznov and Nikita Dragovich, the Numbers were used to make Mason a sleeper agent. He returned as a playable character in the portion of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 that was set in the past, while he took on a minor role in last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

With Mason very familiar with the impact of The Numbers, as he still suffers side effects from the brainwashing, he is the perfect person for the next mission in the ongoing story. The new Season 5 cutscene serves as an outro for the current Season and a teaser for the next, and it sees Hudson and Woods discovering that Adler has been brainwashed. Hudson then tells Woods to get Mason, as he should be able to confirm that something is wrong with Adler - and take him down if necessary.

Considering that Adler is not seen in any Black Ops games after Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Season 6 could mark his final appearance. While an optimistic view of this could be that he is forced to go into retirement since he cannot be trusted, a more likely scenario is that he will die just like Bell did. While there is still some hope for the character’s survival considering that Mason is still employed by the CIA, it seems more likely that Adler’s fate will be full of irony.

While players now have a clear idea of how the Adler story will wrap up, it will be interesting to see if Stitch is taken down in Season 6 as well. The cutscene does not make it clear if this will happen, though The Numbers event that is currently going in Call of Duty: Warzone is part of Stitch’s endgame. As such, players will need answers as to what he was doing with The Numbers stations. With Perseus already escaping in the main campaign, it would be a nice change to see Stitch properly defeated in Season 6.

The cutscene also seems to hint at yet another Call of Duty: Warzone event, as Adler is “working on something” in Verdansk 84. Whatever this big event may be, it seems like players will be able to control Alex Mason while they complete it.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
