For as long as Call of Duty: Warzone has been available, the battle royale game has had an overpowered weapon of some kind. With the game being as popular as it is, it does not take long for Call of Duty: Warzone players to find the most broken loadouts - with the Double Barrel shotgun being the latest.
In its normal form, Call of Duty: Vanguard’s Double Barrel shotgun is not too impressive - the weapon can only fire two shots before it needs to be reloaded, after all. However, despite this downside, there is a way to make the weapon deadly. The solution is the akimbo attachment, which allows Call of Duty: Warzone players to wield two Double Barrel shotguns at the same time. With this setup, players have been doing some serious damage inside Caldera.
Players have been demanding nerfs for Call of Duty: Warzone’s Double Barrel shotgun for several days now, and for good reason. With players able to fire two of the four shells at the same time, they can deal enough damage to one-shot their foes. Worse, the gun has absurd range, meaning that its one-shot kill potential allows players to tear through armor even if they are a fair distance from their enemies. With the hitbox being questionable as well, it is not surprising players are upset, though Raven Software has thankfully responded.
A Tweet from the official Raven Software Twitter page sees the developer acknowledging that these shotguns are far too strong. While they were deadly enough in Call of Duty: Vanguard to need a nerf as well, they were a bit less frustrating since most modes feature respawns and the game’s other shotguns were equally broken. In a battle royale game, being one-shotted by something other than a perfect Sniper Rifle shot is guaranteed to cause uproar.
As for when Call of Duty: Warzone players can expect the nerf to come, Raven Software only shares that it will arrive “in the near future.” While many players would have preferred a specific date, this is still a good sign, and the nerf will likely arrive in the game’s next patch. While no details have been shared as to what it will look like, players can expect adjustments to the weapon’s damage and its range. With patches coming to Call of Duty: Warzone regularly, the nerf happening sometime next week would make sense.
For now, players will need to be patient and keep an eye on the patch notes for the game’s next update. With the Double Barrel sure to go down with the .357 Snakeshot and Skykov pistols as some of the game’s most overpowered dual wield weapons, perhaps Raven should keep a close eye on akimbo weapons going forward.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
