In a bit of bad news for Call of Duty: Warzone 2 players who've grown attached to their favorite silencer, Infinity Ward and Raven Software have seemingly nerfed the game’s suppressors in a new update. Although balance changes to the free-to-play shooter are nothing new, Raven Software had previously nerfed enemies in Warzone 2’s DMZ mode after player complaints, this new update is causing some players to rethink their entire loadout strategy for the game.

Released in late 2022 following the success of its predecessor two years earlier, Call of Duty Warzone 2 is Infinity Ward and Raven Software’s second entry into the crowded Battle Royale genre. Transporting the gameplay from the popular Caldera map to the seaside area of Al Mazrah, the developers set out to retain the features that made the original game a success while adding new gameplay elements. Although there have been complaints about both gameplay changes and the numerous glitches in Warzone 2, the game has been generally well-received by players.

One gameplay change that drew ire from some players is the removal of displaying opponents’ gunfire on the minimap, moving the notification to the compass on the top of the screen instead. This change made it more challenging to locate enemies during matches, a problem likely to be exacerbated by a secret new Call of Duty: Warzone 2 update analyzed by gaming channel WhosImmortal. In a new YouTube video, WhosImmortal explains that a new update for Warzone 2 has completely removed gunfire notifications from the compass, regardless of whether a player is using a suppressor or not. Prior to this update, the only way players could avoid having their location shown when firing was to equip one of the game’s many suppressors on their weapon.

Thanks to this new update, players can effectively remain off the radar in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 without the use of items or custom loadouts. It might be tempting for players to ditch the suppressor from their favorite loadout now that it’s no longer required to keep a low profile in the game, but WhosImmortal notes that the add-on can still provide value in some situations. Discussing bonuses like better stability and increased range for some weapons when equipped, the video explains how the now decidedly less necessary suppressor can still be a useful tool for Warzone 2 players.

While this new update is sure to be unpopular with some Call of Duty: Warzone 2 fans, others will be able to breathe a bit easier knowing that they won’t be giving away their location with every shot. And for players still getting detected even with the new update, there’s always the option of pretending to be an Inflatable Decoy in Warzone 2.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
