Call of Duty: Warzone is one of the most popular games in the world. Released in March 2020, Call of Duty: Warzone captured the battle royale genre, and surpassed an astonishing number of 100 million players over a year later.

There was a lot of uncertainty regarding the future of Call of Duty on PlayStation due to Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Activision Blizzard. While the deal does not get completed until 2023, many fans believed it marked the end of Call of Duty on PlayStation consoles. A new report suggested that Activision will release the next three Call of Duty games on PlayStation, and now a trusted leaker has revealed more information regarding the release platforms for a supposed sequel to Warzone.

According to Tom Henderson, Warzone 2 is a true sequel to Call of Duty: Warzone, and it will only release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. He also states that Warzone 2 will act as a full reset, and will not be integrated with any previous title. Players will not be able to use previously obtained items, as it will be a completely new game for modern hardware. While every leak should be taken with a grain of salt, Tom Henderson has proven to be a reliable source on several occasions.

In a separate Tweet, Henderson notes that Warzone 2 is scheduled to release in 2023. Given that it comes out next year, it’s probably not surprising to see Warzone 2 leave PS4 and Xbox One behind. As it is solely designed around PC and next-gen consoles, players can expect Warzone 2 to be a big upgrade over its predecessor.

Unfortunately, both PS5 and Xbox Series X are still not readily available in stores, and it doesn’t look like supply will meet demand anytime soon. Customers have at least a year to get their hands on these new consoles before Warzone 2 comes out, but it may not be enough. Still, users can choose to get an Xbox Series S as it’s relatively easier to find, and Microsoft may even decide to bundle some exclusive Warzone 2 items with the system.

The original Call of Duty: Warzone will likely retain a healthy player base even after the release of Warzone 2. Many older Call of Duty games still have an active community, and Warzone should not be any different. However, players should not expect Warzone to get new content as Activision will probably focus on making players transition to Warzone 2.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
