The recently released Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is being characterized as a more tactical and slower-paced experience than its predecessor, meaning a player's choice of loadout and play-style is more important than ever. With so many new features being added to the popular battle royale, players are still tweaking their selections to find the best possible fit for success on the battlefield.

As always, perks are a vitally important aspect of gameplay in Call of Duty: Warzone 2. However, the title's new perk system operates in a completely different way than the original Warzone, with players now having to select one of a handful of a perk package. Given these perk packages carry over from Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer, some are more suited to the battle royale format than others.

The Basics of Warzone 2's Perk Packages

As opposed to the original Warzone's perk system that allowed players to choose a variety of perks within a specific loadout, accessed in-game via a loadout drop, Warzone 2 turns the formula on its head. The newer title has essentially done away with loadouts, instead compartmentalizing a player's class into different segments.

Warzone 2 perks are now split into base, bonus, and ultimate perks, which are dispersed between eight perk package presets that cannot be modified or mixed. Because of this limitation, the importance of which perk package preset a player chooses is imperative. The choice essentially dictates what avenues of gameplay are available.

Many of the perk packages in Warzone 2 share similar ultimate perks, being the most useful and sought after. High Alert is an ultimate perk, allowing players to receive a vision pulse when enemies spot them. This offers a huge benefit for combat in the densely populated map of Al Mazrah, and players should choose the Commando perk package to make the most out of it.

Alongside High Alert, Commando comes with Scavenger as a base perk, allowing the player to scavenge ammo from dead bodies from the outset of a match, as well as faster reloads coming as a bonus. The Ghost perk is arguably the most important for Warzone 2, making the player undetectable by UAVs, portable radars, and heartbeat sensors. Players who desire this ultimate perk should choose the Specter perk package, which will allow for double sprint duration and the ability to see enemy footstep trails.

Overclock is another ultimate perk, allowing players to recharge the many Field Upgrades in Warzone. The Warden perk package possesses Overclock alongside faster reloads and sprinting, making it a perfect choice for a more aggressively minded player. Another perk package worth choosing is the unique Weapon Specialist package, which allows the player to carry two customized primary weapons using the Overkill perk.

The Survivor ultimate perk for the Weapons Specialist pack will also allow a player to be revived faster, and will ping an enemy that downs them in combat. It also includes the Spotter bonus perk, allowing for enemy equipment to be seen through walls so they can be hacked. While all of Warzone 2's perk packages have something to offer, these options possess some of the best possible perk blends for the battle royale experience.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
