The second Season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2 recently debuted, and with it came Ashika Island, a fast-paced battle royale map that’s harboring a couple of interesting Easter eggs. The new season was originally intended to premiere earlier in the month, but publisher Activision and developer Infinity Ward evidently saw fit to delay the release by about two weeks.

The primary draw of this new Call of Duty content update is the return of Resurgence mode, a twist on the standard Call of Duty: Warzone formula which allows defeated players to respawn after a certain amount of time rather than fighting in the Gulag – provided they’ve still got a teammate in the field, of course. Resurgence mode was a hit in the original Call of Duty: Warzone, and many longtime players are likely thrilled to see it make a comeback. There’s more to the new Ashika Island map than this gimmick, however.

Released on February 15, the Ashika Island map in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 comes loaded with a couple of interesting Easter eggs. Firstly, fishing makes its return to the Call of Duty series for the first time since Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. This time around, however, it’s done with explosives instead of standard fishing gear. Yet, most interesting of all is the fact that players can store fish in their inventory and feed them to a statue of a sea lion in the aquarium area of the map. Doing so typically yields some uninteresting rewards such as lethal and tactical equipment, but it’s nonetheless worth checking out at least once.

Beyond that, Ashika Island features Castle, a fan favorite multiplayer map from 2008’s Call of Duty: World at War that also returned to 2021’s Call of Duty: Vanguard. This isn’t the only classic Call of Duty map to return as part of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s Season 2 update. Dome from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which was already part of the Al Mazrah map, is now a part of the 6v6 multiplayer map rotation. Coincidentally, Dome also made an appearance during Call of Duty: Vanguard’s lifespan, though it was named Radar in that go-around.

On the whole, Ashika Island and its many secrets are certain to keep fans of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 preoccupied for a time. However, some are already looking ahead to what’s in store for Call of Duty: Warzone 2's upcoming third Season.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
