Call of Duty: Vanguard has some clear options for players that are looking to dominate inside their matches. The BAR, StG 44, and Automaton Assault Rifles all do a lot of damage, as do the MP-40 and Type 100 SMGs. However, not everyone has the luxury of using the game’s best weaponry, as some players working on Call of Duty: Vanguard’s camo grind will want to get the worst guns out of the way first.

While the PPSh-41 is certainly one of the lesser SMGs, even it is a bit better than the Sten. As such, Call of Duty: Vanguard players will have to push through the early levels where they have no attachments unlocked, a process that can be painful due to just how many weapon ranks there are to go through. Fortunately, there are a few ways to make the process more bearable, and once the right attachments have become available, the gun goes from poor to average.

Call of Duty: Vanguard’s Sten

Call Of Duty Vanguard Best Sten Loadout Collage Arthur And Sten

How difficult the early levels of the Sten are depends entirely on whether players pre-ordered the game. This is because a Sten blueprint called “Wildwood” was part of the pre-order exclusive Frontlines weapon pack, with said blueprint featuring a fully kitted-out version of the lackluster weapon. If players have the Wildwood Sten, they should absolutely use it until they unlock better attachments, as it is much stronger than the default version. Another benefit is that the weapon is Arthur Kingsley’s favorite, so players can equip the Call of Duty: Vanguard Operator to level the Sten up faster.

While the Sten may look visually similar to Call of Duty: Vanguard’s Type 100, it lacks the weapon’s many strengths. While it technically has higher damage, its low fire rate stops it from doing well in this area. It has poor range in its default form, making it feel inconsistent and giving players a hard time whenever they try to engage beyond mid-range. However, the burst fire option for the Sten is the SMG’s saving grace.

Best Gunsmith Attachments For Call of Duty: Vanguard’s Sten

The key to success with the Sten is making the weapon burst fire. As such, Call of Duty: Vanguard players will want to equip the Hockenson 248MM Burst barrel, as the attachment compensates for the low fire rate but keeps the strong damage intact. It also helps when using the weapon at longer ranges. The other crucial attachment for the Sten is the .45 ACP 20 Round Mags. Even if players want to keep the weapon fully automatic, this attachment’s boost to damage makes it a must have.

Other attachments players should equip while inside Call of Duty: Vanguard’s Gunsmith are the Stippled Grip rear grip, the F8 Stabilizer muzzle, and Hockenson S33S Padded Stock. The Carver Foregrip underbarrel is also recommended. All these attachments are aimed at controlling recoil, ensuring that players are punished less for the high damage output of the weapon. As always, optic is personal preference, though the Reflector and Sunfilter sights are solid choices.

Lastly, the Quick kit is a good choice so that players can move around Call of Duty: Vanguard’s maps fast, while the Sleight of Hand proficiency is essential. Even with burst fire, 20 round mags will be getting emptied quickly, so players need to ensure that they can reload fast and jump right back into the fight. While this class will not make the Sten a top tier weapon, it does make it usable and will help players survive their camo challenges.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
