While Call of Duty: Vanguard Season 1 is exciting for multiplayer fans, it is particularly important for Zombies players. Those that are hoping the Call of Duty: Vanguard version of the mode will be improved should be happy to learn that new content is on the way.

As the original Season 1 roadmap suggested, Zombies fans will not be seeing a new map this Season. Further, the main quest for Der Anfang will not be dropping this Season, meaning that players need to stay patient for a while longer. However, there are some other improvements being made, some of which should make Der Anfang a bit less repetitive than it has been thus far.

When Call of Duty: Vanguard Season 1 begins, players will be able to complete the Purge objective type. This will be the fourth objective type in the mode, and it tasks players with taking down “aethereal worms” known as Augmentors. The objective can appear in every arena, and it sees players fighting the undead as they gather Control Runes. With Rune-collection being the focus, it sounds very similar to Harvest, though it will be interesting to see how it plays.

Treyarch has also highlighted five additions to the Altar of Covenants. Brimstone does extra damage to groups of enemies, Deadshot adapts the Deadshot Daiquiri perk by locking to the heads of foes and adding critical damage to the first headshot, and Dead Wire is the same as the original Pack-A-Punch effect. Scrapper provides more salvage, while Swift Vengeance lets players deal more damage when moving fast - meaning it could be useful when paired with Aethereal Haste. Launchers and Season 1 weapons are also being added, as are Seasononal challenges.

However, it seems like Season 1 Reloaded will be more eventful for Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies players. The midseason update is adding The Tome of Rituals, which will finally make Artifacts like Ring of Fire upgradable. The Von List’s Office location will be added to Der Anfang as well, with the area setting up the long-awaited main quest. Killstreaks and server pause will be coming, too. Intriguingly, while there is still no mention of a Pack-A-Punch camo, a screenshot posted by Treyarch on Instagram seems to show a new camo that looks like a recolored version of Atomic – though fans should keep their expectations low until there is some official confirmation.

While the mode still has other issues that need to be addressed, like a lack of Wonder Weapons and unnecessary load screens in the Stalingrad hub, these updates do address some problems. Though most will not be satisfied until round-based content is added, Season 1 does seem like a first step toward fixing the mode.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
