Prior to the launch of Call of Duty: Vanguard, it was confirmed that the game would be getting a version of League Play. Now, the competitive mode has a confirmed release date, and Call of Duty: Vanguard fans can look forward to it dropping very soon.
The mode is scheduled to debut sometime in February, with a Call of Duty League post confirming that it will be coming as part of Season 2. Season 2 of Call of Duty: Vanguard was recently delayed to February 14, and while it is not confirmed that the competitive mode will drop the day that the Season begins, it does seem likely. While the rest of the post discusses delays for Call of Duty League cosmetics, it is this confirmation of the ranked mode’s launch that has the community excited.
Back when competitive play was announced for Call of Duty: Vanguard, it was revealed that Treyarch would be assisting with the mode. This instantly got the Call of Duty community excited, as even though Treyarch stumbled with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s League Play, the developer was also responsible for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s system. Widely regarded as the peak of competitive Call of Duty, modern competitive modes are still compared to the 2012 title, explaining the high hopes players have for the latest iteration.
Recent leaks suggested that Call of Duty: Vanguard’s competitive mode would be comparable to Call of Duty: WW2, news that also pleased the franchise’s massive fan base. Another well received take on ranked gameplay, this rumor proving true could mean several things, such as skill divisions and special competitive leaderboards that the community can access. While the Call of Duty League blog post does not confirm if these rumors are true, it does tell players that more details will be revealed soon.
The post also seems to confirm that the mode will be called Ranked Play, giving Call of Duty: Vanguard players a name for the highly anticipated addition. With the game being in a rough place at the moment, as a massive number of bugs and glitches are what led to Season 2 being delayed in the first place, the incoming debut of Ranked Play provides a reason to be optimistic. Hopefully, Season 2 sees improvements to the game’s stability, allowing gamers to focus fully on enjoying Ranked Play once it arrives.
For those that do not care for competitive modes, Season 2 will surely bring some new Call of Duty: Vanguard maps, modes, and weapons to enjoy as well. With a fresh Battle Pass and more Zombies content also on the way, it should be an eventful Season for every kind of Call of Duty: Vanguard fan.
