Sledgehammer Games released Call of Duty: Vanguard at the beginning of November, which serves as the 18th installment in this long-running series. While the developer has been assisting Infinity Ward and Treyarch in recent releases in the Call of Duty franchise, this will be the first major game released by Sledgehammer since WW2 in 2017.

While the critical reception of Call of Duty: WW2 wasn’t that much different from Vanguard, some fans were excited to see the series go back to the Second World War. WW2 also launched with a new game mode called War Mode, where 2 teams of 6 players played the role of either the Allied or Axis forces. It was an objective-based game mode that featured battles inspired by iconic moments from the Second World War. While War Mode hasn’t been a part of any Call of Duty game since, it seems like some fans want it to return in Vanguard in some form.

A poster on the Call of Duty: Vanguard subReddit mentions that War Mode was a fantastic addition to WW2, and they are desperate for it to come back. The comment section is filed with people echoing this statement, with one saying that War was the only good thing about Call of Duty: WW2. According to a comment, the implementation of War Mode took a lot of effort, which may be the reason why it hasn’t been featured in any Call of Duty game since then. Some other fans want the development team to even drop the Zombies game mode in favor of new and fresh ideas.

It seems like War Mode isn’t the only thing fans want to see re-introduced, as they also want map voting to be added to Vanguard. Being able to vote on the next map was a feature of Call of Duty multiplayer for many years, but it was surprisingly absent from 2019’s Modern Warfare. However, last year’s Black Ops Cold War saw a return of map voting, and now the feature is again absent from Vanguard. As expected, fans are extremely confused by this oscillating chain of events.

Anyone looking to purchase Vanguard can take advantage of the ongoing Black Friday sales. Subject to availability, Call of Duty: Vanguard can be purchased for as low as $39.99 at some retailers. Even if the game is currently out of stock, fans can look forward to grabbing Vanguard during any of the other sales from this holiday season.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
