Call of Duty: Vanguard has added a few new mechanics to the franchise. Destruction allows wooden walls to be broken down or left intact, making for some unique cover opportunities. The Altar of Covenants adds a roguelike feature to the series’ iconic Zombies mode, and while it is divisive to say the least, Der Anfang is a major departure from the usual co-op experience. New modes like Patrol and an improved Operator system are also included.

While Call of Duty: Vanguard adds a lot of things, it also brings back mechanics like mantling and tactical sprint. With such a good blend between old and new mechanics, it is a shame that one particular feature has been left in the past: a ping system. Despite being crucial to Call of Duty: Warzone and a huge quality of life feature for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Sledgehammer Games’ latest title does not allow players to ping enemies and items. Hopefully, the mechanic comes in the future, as both Zombies and multiplayer are suffering without it.

The Benefits Of A Ping System In Call of Duty: Vanguard Multiplayer

Call of Duty: Vanguard multiplayer fans will surely be able to think of a scenario where a ping system would help. When players are being shot at, being able to point to the exact location where the bullets were coming from can be hugely beneficial, as callouts can only help so much. Similarly, tagging certain objectives to coordinate attacks or warn players that an enemy is approaching could be very helpful, possibly leading to a win or loss if used correctly.

For Call of Duty: Vanguard players that do not have a mic or do not want to use one, a ping system would make a difference. With gestures like “over here” and “rally up” not giving off any text on the screen, they are essentially useless when used as a way to guide the team. With no Ping System currently in the game, players that do not speak on the mic have no way to communicate clearly with those that they are working with. With so many players choosing party chats over in-game chat, too, the much-needed ping system would be a reliable way to coordinate in multiplayer matches.

The Benefits Of A Ping System In Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies

While a ping system would help players work together on Call of Duty: Vanguard’s multiplayer maps, it would be even more useful inside of Zombies. Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies relies heavily on item drops, which means players need to be able to tell their teammates when something has dropped. In Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, players could ping armor drops of self-revives for their teammates and go back to playing. Without the ability to mark items, though, gamers now need to stand next to the item and wait for their allies to come pick it up.

The same issue is seen with Call of Duty: Vanguard’s objectives, as players would surely benefit from being able to ping augmentors or runes when working together on the various tasks. A ping system would also help players show newcomers around, pointing out the chest and crystal spots in the Stalingrad hub area. Perk fountains could be highlighted, too, helping players get the hang of a new map easier.

Aside from marking useful items and helping with coordination, a ping system would be very useful once easter eggs come to Call of Duty: Vanguard. While the Der Anfang main quest is still being worked on, having a ping system available when it is added could make completing it a lot less frustrating. Players could point out where their friends need to go and what they need to collect during the easter egg’s steps, speeding up the process. Assuming that side quests are added, too, this feature would be just as useful when working on those as well. With the left d-pad button doing nothing currently, as weapon inspects are also not included in Call of Duty: Vanguard, hopefully a future update will see it being used to let players mark items and locations.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
