Call of Duty: Vanguard attempted to introduce some interesting mechanics to the franchise, such as suppression. However, not only was the community quick to demand a rework for weapon bloom, but they have also been criticizing the Call of Duty: Vanguard perk Piercing Vision since launch.

While there have been other controversial Call of Duty: Vanguard perks added to the mix, the very concept of Piercing Vision caused players to worry prior to the game’s launch. Piercing Vision essentially gives gamers wall hacks, as enemies that are shot through a wall will be outlined in red - allowing players to see them moving around inside a building or behind cover. With the game featuring several weapons and attachments that boast great bullet penetration, this perk can be incredibly frustrating.

Piercing Vision Lowers Call of Duty’s Skill Gap and Is Impossible To Fight Against

One example of Piercing Vision at its worst was shared by Reddit user and Call of Duty: Vanguard player sub-to-Doner_YT. In the clip, the player can be seen using Piercing Vision alongside an LMG. Not only do LMGs have good bullet penetration to begin with, but the Redditor paired this functionality with a UAV. As such, every time they would see a red dot ping on their mini map, they would shoot at the wall where the enemy was positioned. Sure enough, their injured foe would turn Red, allowing the Redditor to finish them off.

While this would have been ridiculous on its own, the player uses the trick to go on an absurd killstreak, shooting through walls to kill several players in a row. Unsurprisingly, many were annoyed to see the perk being used this effectively, as the clip perfectly illustrates gamers’ initial fears with Piercing Vision. Before long, the comments were filled with gamers like Reddit user Toastinette sharing their hopes that the perk would not feature in 2022’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Lassie_Maven calls it an “awful perk,” while notoriousbogg claims it is the “worst perk idea in COD history.”

With a separate, profanity-filled post from Redditor NoDivide3582 going live shortly after this clip was posted, the fan base has made its opinions very clear on this perk. The Call of Duty franchise as a whole has already come under fire for “lowering the skill gap” via systems like skill-based matchmaking. In the eyes of many, perks like this are another step too far, as players can combine an overpowered weapon like the Whitley LMG with Piercing Vision to kill players they normally would have never been able to see.

Being killed by a Piercing Vision user has proven to be incredibly frustrating, as there is no way to fight back and counter the bullets that are randomly coming through walls. With so many structures able to be shot through or destroyed in Call of Duty: Vanguard, it feels as if players are at a major disadvantage without Piercing Vision. That should never be the case for a perk, as players should always be free to choose whatever they want. Perhaps Sledgehammer Games will rework Piercing Vision like it did with Call of Duty: Vanguard’s weapon bloom, but no matter what, the community has made it clear that it does not want to see the perk again in future games.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
