Call of Duty: Vanguard is opening up the flood gates. Starting this week, fans will have the opportunity to play the game's multiplayer and Zombies components for free granting players access to a multitude of different modes from the game's newest season, Mercenaries of Fortune.

Call of Duty: Vanguard saw the franchise return to the World War 2 setting after years of modern warfare. The game was met with rather disappointing sales and reception yet despite the lukewarm response, the team at Sledgehammer Games has been working tirelessly to improve the core experience. The game's multiplayer portion is now in its fourth season of content, bringing a ton of new weapons and a hefty battle pass full of goodies to unlock.

Call of Duty: Vanguard's multiplayer and Zombies portion will be free-to-play for gamers everywhere starting on July 20 up until July 26. This free access period will grant gamers access to over 20 different multiplayer modes such as Blueprint Gun Game, a mode that cycles through randomly generated weapons in order to defeat opposing players. There will also be modes such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, and much more as well as the ability to play on the USS Texas map from Call of Duty: WW2 that Season 4 reintroduced.

Alongside multiplayer, Zombies will be a playable portion of the free access period. This will include the core Zombies maps and the recently returned Shi No Numa, albeit as a reimagining of the map that first appeared in Call of Duty: World at War. Shi No Numa sees the return of the classic round-based Zombies experience that this mode has been known for, which Call of Duty: Vanguard's new experience did not have at launch. Players will also have access to the first wave of the Zombies mode as part of the free access.

This isn't the first time Call of Duty: Vanguard has held a free access period, however, this is the most content fans have had the opportunity to experience. As usual, the free access portion requires a separate download that varies depending on platform of choice. As the launch of Modern Warfare 2 rapidly approaches, this is a great opportunity to revisit what could possibly be Call of Duty's last World War 2-themed title for the time being.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
