With the game’s launch now imminent, hype for Call of Duty: Vanguard is at an all-time high. Several details have been revealed about the game in recent weeks, and now a leaker has given fans a look at one of the mastery camos from Call of Duty: Vanguard.

While Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 got the ball rolling with Diamond, which is unlocked by getting gold camo for every weapon in a specific class, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 took things to a new level. The first game to introduce Dark Matter, a camo unlocked by getting Diamond for every weapon class, fans of the series had a whole new item to grind for. Since it was first added, there has always been some version of Dark Matter as a final camo unlock, and Call of Duty: Vanguard may be no different.

Reputable leaker @TheGhostOfMW posted two photos of one of the new mastery camos, with the item placed on Call of Duty: Vanguard’s StG 44. The Assault Rifle looks incredible with the over-the-top camo design, which gives it a fiery red look. It certainly looks as if the camo will be animated, moving around regularly as the weapon is fired. As pointed out in some of the comments, it is very reminiscent of Dark Aether from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies.

Assuming that this is a new variant of the Dark Aether camo, it would imply that there will once again be separate mastery camos for Zombies and multiplayer. In Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Zombies fans could unlock Golden Viper, Plague Diamond, and the purple Dark Aether camo. This differed from multiplayer’s standard Gold, Diamond, and Dark Matter Ultra options. While it would be exciting if there were special camo grinds in both Zombies and multiplayer, this is purely speculation, as this could just be a multiplayer mastery camo.

While this camo certainly looks great, it is important to keep in mind that there will likely be a few mastery camos that are unlocked before it. With Sledgehammer clearly not afraid to go over-the-top with this year’s cosmetics, players could see the classic Gold and Diamond camos making a comeback. It would also be nice to see Chrome from Call of Duty: WW2 return, which was that game’s version of Dark Matter. Still, all players know for sure is that this red, Dark Aether-looking camo will be included.

With Call of Duty: Vanguard featuring Operator levels alongside weapon and account levels, as well as challenges to complete, there will be plenty of things for Call of Duty fans to grind for. With this leaked camo standing out so much, many will likely be putting in the work to unlock it.

Call of Duty: Vanguard launches November 5 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
