With Call of Duty: Vanguard being out for over a week, players are starting to realize that they are not a fan of certain mechanics. One such mechanic is the damage sound in Call of Duty: Vanguard, as some are finding it hard to concentrate on other audio.

In Call of Duty: Vanguard multiplayer, players will end up facing large numbers of enemies due to the combat pacing feature. This mechanic will see maps filled with more or less players depending on their size, though players can adjust the pacing to better suit their own playstyle. If gamers do end up in playlists with high player counts, though, they will understandably be getting shot at a whole lot more - though this is leading to some annoyance for players.

In particular, Call of Duty: Vanguard players are annoyed at the sound that is made whenever they are hit with enemy fire. While it is expected that a “thud” would be heard alongside a hit marker when an enemy is shot, as this notifies the player that their gunfire landed, a similar noise is also heard when players are hit. While some will surely see this as useful, as it gives them another indicator to take cover, Reddit user AscensionAscension makes a strong case for the sound to be adjustable.

While the player does not believe that the sound should be removed entirely, as it is not as troublesome as something like the Bombing Run killstreak, they do want an option to toggle the volume. As mentioned in the title, they have auditory processing issues, which can make the game hard to play normally. However, the thud sound that comes from being hit is adding to the problem, as the noise is too loud and is giving AscensionAscension sensory overload.

The Redditor points out that last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was even worse with this noise, forcing the player to keep the game muted all year. As such, they are hoping that Sledgehammer Games will allow this sound to be changed through a future Call of Duty: Vanguard update. In the comments, players like DeusBex agreed, saying that more accessibility options are always a positive. Another player, truepopoon, pointed out the loud screaming that is heard whenever players are hit with incendiary bullets. With this unnecessary screaming combining with loud damage noises, players are unable to hear much of anything once they have been set on fire by an opponent.

While fixing Call of Duty: Vanguard’s bugs may be higher on Sledgehammer Games’ list of priorities, hopefully the studio sees this thread. While many may not be impacted by the addition, AscensionAscension and others with similar disabilities would benefit greatly.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
