Call of Duty: Vanguard fans have cited several issues with the game, with some being minimal and others being major. However, most Call of Duty: Vanguard fans do take issue with the killstreaks, something that a requested game mode could fix.

Call of Duty: Vanguard’s most annoying killstreaks are Bombing Run and Mortar Barrage. In the case of the former, it cannot be placed on a specific portion of the map. As such, it hits randomly, meaning it is just as likely to kill the person calling it in as it is to take out an enemy. As for Mortar Barrage, the streak launches massive piles of dust and debris into the sky every time it hits the ground. With several explosives hitting the floor in quick succession, it becomes impossible to see in the impacted part of the map for long periods of time.

While players have asked for individual adjustments to the Mortar Barrage and Bombing Run, some have decided that it would be best to have an entire mode without streaks of any kind. Reddit user lookatmycode recently started a thread making this request, with the player pointing out that “the whole map is chaos” due to the plentiful streaks being called in as well as the streaks themselves. However, it was Reddit user Friddles-14 that pointed out how Face Off would be the perfect solution.

Face Off was a variant of Gunfight in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, with the mode originally giving players access to a 3v3 experience that made things more hectic and allowed for players to bring an extra friend into the small-scale matches. However, a 6v6 variant was eventually offered, and it proved so popular that it became a permanent playlist. While the mode did not offer scorestreaks, it was chaotic due to the sheer number of players on each Gunfight map. Friddles-14 even makes the clever suggestion to make it accessible via Combat Pacing.

Redditor justicecardoorzo backs up this suggestion, as does A7III, who says Face Off was Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s best mode. As of now, the only thing holding back Face Off is Champion Hill, as no traditional version of Gunfight exists. However, Shipment and Das Haus are both small enough to serve as excellent stand-ins, and should work just fine. If Sledgehammer separates the Champion Hill maps, too, Face Off could have plenty of content for those looking for a hectic but killstreak-free game mode.

With Call of Duty: Vanguard Season 1 right around the corner, and several Seasons set to come down the road, there is plenty of potential for Face Off to be added at some point. Clearly, the interest is there, with some tired of the game’s killstreaks.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
