Call of Duty: Vanguard just confirmed its playable game modes for its highly anticipated beta that is coming to PlayStation consoles from September 10th to September 13th. The trailer is a mix of returning fan favorites as well as a couple of new modes intended to specifically make Call of Duty: Vanguard a more unique experience in the annual shooter franchise.

The series is returning once again to the Call of Duty’s World War 2 roots. The short reveal trailer informs players of the 5 game modes that will be made available in the game’s beta. Among those game modes are the returning staples of Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Kill Confirmed. In addition, the newest Call of Duty entry is adding two new modes in the form of Champion’s Hill and Patrol.

Call of Duty: Vanguard will feature some returning features and modes, the first of which is Team Deathmatch. It will continue being the mode fans know and love, pitting two teams against one another competing to be the first to reach a predetermined amount of kills. This is similar to the mode Kill Confirmed, where players have to take things one step further by picking up dog tags dropped by their victims in order to score. Players can also pick up their teammate’s dog tags to prevent enemies from scoring. Finally, of the returning modes, there is Domination, a mode in which teams vie for control of three flags. Teams will get points for holding a flag every few seconds, with more points being awarded for more flags.

But the new shooter is not just holding to some series traditions. It is also looking to add some new life to the franchise. Call of Duty: Vanguard’s new Champion Hill mode is a self-described “multi-arena survival tournament” that spans four maps at once. The mode will pit eight teams of two to three players against one another across a large battlefield. Each team will have a set number of lives for the match. Players must deplete the enemy teams’ lives while maintaining their own. The last team standing will be crowned the champion.

Call of Duty: Vanguard’s new Patrol mode will also be available in the beta. This mode is similar to the mode Hardpoint, which features a teleporting objective that players need to hold for a certain amount of time. Patrol builds on this formula by offering a larger map and a twist: the objective constantly moves. Teams will be able to select three different speeds for the mode that determine how quickly the objective travels. With the objective constantly in motion, teams will have to use effective communication and clever tactics to prevail.

Fans of the franchise are undoubtedly excited to sink their teeth into Call of Duty: Vanguard’s beta, and with its new maps and modes, it is shaping up to be a stalwart entry in the FPS behemoth.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is set to release on November 5th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
