Some players have to run their eyes when they first look at the stats on the Type 99 "sniper rifle" in Call of Duty: Vanguard. While the other two sniper rifles have a range of 16000 inches, the Type 99 carries a base distance of 1350 inches, less than 9% of what most players would consider being a standard sniper rifle.
This amount of distance can never be recouped with any loadout. But the brilliance of the perfect Type 99 loadout is giving up on long-range and embracing its gifts. With a coveted opportunity to one-hit-kill combatants on the frontlines of Call of Duty: Vanguard, the Type 99 becomes a lethal mid-range option.
Operator
- Any
Some guns get the benefit of having an ideal operator, but the Type 99 isn't so lucky. The advantage of being the favorite gun of an operator is bonus experience, both for the weapon and the operator, when the two are combined.
On the bright side, anyone who has been dutifully unlocking all of the operators will be able to use their favorite character without feeling like they are leaving something on the table. It might take longer, but at max level, it won't make any difference who holds the Type 99.

There is a good reason that many players consider the Type 100 the best of all the starting weapons. With these attachments, it kills a player at full health with a hit anywhere on their body. The speed in movement and aiming are also serious strengths of this loadout.
Recoil is entirely sacrificed to make this build happen, so don't bother staying exposed for more than a single shot. Take a shot, duck for cover, then get another clean shot off. The Type 99 might be built for mid-range, but it should have all the safety of a sniper rifle.
Secondary Weapon
- FS Fighting Knife
Equipping the knife is mostly about movement speed. With a weapon that does a kill in a single shot, the only way to improve is to get from place to place faster. The more time fighting, the more the Type 99 is going to prove that it is not to be underestimated.
It's not entirely meant to be kept sheathed either. Imagine how much the FS Fighting Knife would have helped accomplish the "Ticket Please" achievement. In a heavy fight where combatants run out of ammunition, jump in and finish things off with the knife.

Having perks like these would have completely broken a number of the campaign missions. Although this is never going to be confused for a stealth build, Ghost prevents several ways that opponents would be able to see the player or the Type 99.
Radar is especially effective against opponents with sustained rates of fire, largely SMGs and assault rifles, the very enemies that the Type 99 picks on best. To give from fight to fight faster, Double Time will help out with sprinting and movement while kneeling.
Lethal Slot
- MK2 Frag Grenade
The formula for the Type 99 is simple for much of the game. See it, shoot it anywhere, and move on. This type of lethal damage works at close and long-range over a variety of distances. But what about enemies that get away and can't be seen?
For these crafty foes, cook a grenade and bounce it around the corner. Even the best-crafted maps have a heavy amount of cover and debris for players to hide behind. MK2 Frag Grenades don't need to kill to be effective; scaring players out of a room funnels them into the scope of the Type 99.
Tactical Slot
- MK V Gas
Largely for the same reasons that the MK2 Frag Grenade is successful, the MK V Gas grenade is also a good choice. It either sets up enemies for kills who bask in it or forces them to run away and into a line of sight. The Type 99 makes short work of either choice the enemy makes.
It's also fine to simply toss it in the middle of a group of enemies with or without a line of sight. It's effective support and not enough players get perks that counter the slower movement. If the firefight gets hot, cool it down with a canister of MK V Gas.
Killstreaks
- Care Package
- Emergency Airdrop
- Local Informants
Nobody will doubt the power of the Care Package or the Emergency Airdrop. The Care Package has over a 92% chance to give a reward equal to or greater than the four kills that went into it. The Emergency Airdrop, per package, makes this 100%.
Local Informants is the toughest streak in the game to get, but it's achievable for the Type 99. Until a sneaky SMG or a lucky sniper brings down the player, the Type 99 will be winning almost every confrontation in between.
Field Upgrade
- Deployable Cover
The method of the Type 99 is to fire, hide, and then fire again. But there are frequently places that are perfect except that they lack cover. In these instances, throw down a Deployable Cover in a desirable position and repeat the cycle.
The recovery time of this field upgrade is fast, so it should be used liberally. Any time a fight breaks out or may break out, tossing this down will maintain player safety in between bullets.
