There is no SMG with a larger magazine than the M1928 in Call of Duty: Vanguard. This sounds enticing, but SMGs are usually meant to be quick burst, up-close weapons. Without the right loadout, it can feel like a weapon without an identity amidst many guns that are brimming with personality.

By taking the gun and ignoring the SMG designation, players can turn this into a front-line fighter that has the staying power to help teams win games in tight spots. With the right choices, this weapon will break stalemates and win the tight games more often than not in Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Operator

  • Any

The good news is that any operator can wield the M1928 just fine. There is no statistical advantage of one character using the M1928 over another, so if this Tommy Gun style looks better on one character than another, go with the more aesthetically pleasing option.

The downside is that no character provides an experience bonus, even if players have unlocked all of the operators. This will make the grind to maxing out the M1928 a little bit longer. There is no statistical difference once it is at the top tier, so don't worry about it too much.

Although different versions of the game come with different unlocks and attachments ready right away, it just takes hard work and time to get all of the attachments available for the M1928. Once getting it, this loadout is made to win in team games.

By playing on the front lines, this gun's job is to kill anybody that shows their faces and keep the rest cowering in fear. Suppressing fire with a magazine this large lasts for a long time, much longer than most enemies can stay hidden for.

Secondary Weapon

Because the MK11 Launcher endeared itself during a number of campaign missions, it's tough to recommend anything else. But this build is made to assist and tank, not steal the show, so leave the killing to the others and grab an M1 Bazooka.

Taking out enemy vehicles will help the stealthy characters sneak around the back, which is more than just a little important for a loadout with superior suppression. It gets the nod over the Panzerschreck thanks to a better field of vision.

Tactician

The perks here are straightforward for a frontline combatant. Between grenades and launchers, explosions are everywhere, so Fortified becomes a critical selection, especially when crouched or prone, and are advisable moves for any frontline combatant.

Piercing Vision is probably the most important perk in the loadout, since suppressing fire is what the M1928 does best. Getting an extra means of disabling the enemy with Tactician is crucial to turning the tides of team fights.

Lethal Slot

  • Thermite

Having a lethal gadget that lasts as long as the M1928 does in combat works perfectly with this build. For enemies that are marked with Piercing Vision, simply toss some Thermite over their cover and on their heads.

They'll then be confronted with the choice to stay there and die or run into combat and die. There are some fantastic weapons in the armory, but this move is worth just as much as any purchased blueprint. It also cuts of enemies from their friends, setting them up to be picked off.

Tactical Slot

Thanks to Tactician, the M1928 loadout has two of these canisters to toss. During prolonged fighting, simply toss in a can and keep shooting. Enemies will hunker down and wait for it to be over. Then have some teammates charge in and finish the job.

It would be helpful to have this kind of team coordination when getting the Ticket Please achievement, but at least online play brings about the promise of what good communication can do for a group of soldiers.

Killstreaks

  • Mortar Barrage

One of the downsides to constantly being on the frontlines is the occasional unlucky headshot death. There's no getting around that this kind of fighter has an advantage over other frontline fighters, but in a scrum, untimely deaths are always a possibility.

Pick killstreak rewards with low requirements. Care Package has a 92% chance of being a reward equal to or greater than the four kills it takes to get it. And Mortar Barrage can drive enemies away from the backlines, onto the front, and into the M1928's scope.

Field Upgrade

  • Armor Plates

Perhaps the most underused field upgrade in the game, Armor Plates eliminate center mass vulnerability. That's huge because torso shots are not only common but deal a tremendous amount of damage, usually of the fatal variety.

Recharging it will take a while, so this loadout will still need to use classic cover much of the time. But when it does come off of cooldown, players will immediately notice the difference on both teams. In a firefight where well-placed shots are hard to come by, it can feel like invincibility.

Call of Duty: Vanguard was released on November 5th, 2021, and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
