After about eight rounds of multiplayer in Call of Duty: Vanguard, if the game feels like it's in a rut of point and shooting until one person ends up dead, then it is time to switch things up. And it's hard to switch things up and more than the Itra Burst assault rifle.
Unless it's a headshot, three-round bursts just aren't enough to kill somebody at the medium to long-range distances that assault rifles frequently wind up in. But with a carefully crafted loadout, the Itra Burst adds a fourth bullet to the mix, and this can, indeed, do the trick of taking an opponent out almost as well as a sniper rifle in Call of Duty: Vanguard.
Operator
- Any
Unfortunately for players who want an operator that gels perfectly with the Itra Burst, none of them provide an experience boost. None of them have a penalty for using the gun either, so it's not necessarily bad for any of them.
Players who were eagerly anticipating the game's release will likely have many characters unlocked. Any of those will do, pick a favorite and have fun. Don't worry too much about the missed experience, the kills that the Itra Burst can rack up will compensate for the lack of an experience boost.

There were many differences between the versions of Call of Duty: Vanguard so some players will have access to these attachments sooner than others. But it's only a matter of time until they are all unlocked. A mediocre player gaming for an hour or two every day for a week will probably have all of these unlocked.
The common theme here is that firepower is everything. This gun needs every damage boost it can get to take a player down with one burst. Thankfully, because it fires in bursts, recoil is easy to sacrifice. There is also a tremendous amount of aim speed here, too, so most duels should go the way of the Itra Burst.
Secondary Weapon
- MK11 Launcher
The numerous campaign missions will leave players hungry to get ahold of the MK11 Launcher again. There are other weapons designed to handle vehicles better, but they are inconsistent and tough to aim. Plus, killing players before they can get their killstreaks leads to fewer vehicles in the first place.
This is not only good at killing infantry but good at killing infantry in contested areas where the Itra Burst struggles. For encounters in close quarters, it's better to drop a few grenades in there instead of risking life and limb with a decidedly mid-range weapon.
Perks
Perk 1 |
Cold Blooded |
Perk 2 |
Forward Intel |
Perk 3 |
Double Time |
There is a delicate balance to playing a mid-ranged weapon. Too close to the combat and players become food for SMGs and snipers. Too far away and they either get no kills or a sniper picks them off. The trick is to identify and stay in the ring of safety.
Forward Intel makes the minimap larger, and it's just enough to show fighting on the edges. If the red dots start creeping closer, back off. If they're far away, inch forward. Double Time helps stay in position and Cold Blooded keeps enemies in the dark as far as knowing what that position is.
Lethal Slot
- MK2 Frag Grenade
Though it's hardly the most exciting option, the first choice is the best choice for the Itra Burst loadout. Anything in sight, the Itra can kill in an instant. But enemies around corners and in small rooms often dare for opponents to come and get them.
Instead of playing that game, flush them out with a grenade. They'll either die in the blast or have to run out of their spot... and into the scope.
Tactical Slot
- Decoy Grenade
One highly underrated gadget is the Decoy Grenade. Most players, even at the pro level, are glued to their minimaps. Anything that looks like activity, especially if it's isolated and alone, they'll start sprinting toward it.
Tossing this in a spot with good vision enables players to pick up a free kill or two against enemies who sprint toward the location. It's something that few weapons can take advantage of like the Itra Burst because there is usually only a second before the enemy sees they've been duped. Thankfully, one second is more than enough.
Killstreaks
- Intel
- Spy Plane
- Local Informants
Using the saying "Location, Location, Location" is a business term, but in this case, it's how the Itra Burst lives and breathes. All three of these killstreaks reveal enemy locations and two of them help out allies too.
Again, this is all about knowing where the action is and maintaining that perfect distance from it. The quicker players can react, the more kills they can stack up and stay alive. Few loadouts are capable of hitting twelve kills in a row, but this one is, making it achievable to get the elusive Local Informants killstreak.
Field Upgrade
- Field Mic
It's probably getting redundant to read, but it cannot be overstated how important positioning is for this build. The Field Mic can help with both offense and defense, revealing any moving player relatively nearby for safety and turning some defense into a quick and deadly offense.
When there is a killstreak revealing enemies, save it, but when kills are hard to come back, cranking the Field Mic should help get the party started by revealing the locations of some easy pickings.
Call of Duty: Vanguard was released on November 5th, 2021, and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
