On June 2, a Reddit user called antmaster208 made a post on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 subreddit sharing their opinion about the future of regular multiplayer in following Call of Duty games. According to the Reddit post, the user believes Call of Duty's multiplayer will die as the other more popular game modes keep getting attention from its developers, something many fans agree on in the post's comment section. Recently, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 fans received a new map, but that does not seem to change their mind about the franchise's future.

Many Reddit users think Call of Duty: Warzone 2 gets more attention in comparison to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, as they believe the developer is focused on releasing more paid content to offer Call of Duty: Warzone 2 players additional items and bundles to buy. A few users believe Call of Duty: Warzone 2's DMZ game mode is also getting more attention than the main game's multiplayer, turning multiplayer into an easy way to unlock camos in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer, leaving out veteran gamers who love the standard Call of Duty experience.

According to the Reddit post, a few gamers prefer to play Call of Duty: Warzone 2's DMZ over Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, claiming the extraction game mode is in a good state and that they can have fun without facing competitive players or playing in the same game modes they've been playing for years. Call of Duty: Warzone 2's DMZ game mode has new content from the game's developer, and many players are enjoying the free-to-play experience similar to games like Escape From Tarkov and Marauders. Free-to-play games allow players to try new titles and possibly invest in cosmetic items, and gaming developers know this, so the Call of Duty franchise could step in that direction in following titles while looking to maximize profit and reach more players.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 are available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
