Call of Duty: WW2 is available for PS Plus subscribers to download and play for free as part of June's free offerings, but Modern Warfare players should watch out for this mistake. As it happens, a user's COD Points are shared between both games, so spending them all in one will result in running out in the other as well.

Players can use COD points to unlock the seasonal battle passes, cosmetic items, supply drops, and the like, and they can be purchased or earned while playing certain Call of Duty games. Unfortunately, it wasn't made entirely clear at first that COD points earned from Modern Warfare could be spent in Call of Duty: WW2.

Unfortunately for one Redditor, Fadedgogeta, this lesson was learned the hard way. The user recounts the story of how they spent all of their COD points on supply drops in Call of Duty: WW2, only to later load up Modern Warfare and find their points completely spent.

It's worth noting that the same principle applies with other Call of Duty games which support the use of CoD points, such as Black Ops 4. While this does mean that players that aren't careful could end up spending points when they didn't mean to, on the other hand, it means players can still collect CoD points for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare while playing Call of Duty: WW2. In that sense, it is sort of a blessing and a curse, but as long as players are careful and only spend their points where it counts it should be alright.

From the responses on Fadedgogeta's tragic thread, it seems that other users have been making this mistake as well. Hopefully word spreads quickly and newer users can learn from the mistakes of those that come before them. This happens because CoD points are linked to players' activision accounts rather than tracked separately by games, although some have noted that they can't transfer between platforms (PC to PS4, etc).

The issue is twofold as well, as many fans were extremely unhappy with the way Call of Duty: WW2 handled its supply drops. Rather than the more modern battle pass system which is employed by Call of Duty: Modern WarfareWW2 used a loot box like system, and players were rarely able to get the items that they wanted. All in all, it is best to exercise extreme caution when spending CoD points in this month's free game.
