This week, Activision has announced the dates for the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's open beta, as well as some new content for Modern Warfare. PlayStation 4 players will be able to try the open beta before other platforms, like they got to try the Black Ops Cold War Alpha earlier this month.

The PlayStation 4 open beta will run from October 10 to October 12, on October 17 the beta will be available for all platforms. Although many of today's Activision Games Blog announcements regarded Black Ops Cold War, there were also a few updates on Modern Warfare including playlist changes, returning game modes, new bundles, and a weekend of double XP.

Starting September 25 at 10:00 a.m. PT, players will receive double XP, double weapon XP, and double Battle Pass progression for both Modern Warfare and Warzone. The double XP lasts until September 28, and features many different ways to level up weapons and the Battle Pass quickly. It is expected that Season 5 will end on September 28, so that weekend may be the last chance to complete its Battle Pass.

There are plenty of game modes being added that will help boost player levels quickly, especially with double XP available. The Shoot the Ship playlist has been split into Shipment 24/7 and Shoot House 24/7, with both maps being very small and fast-paced to help players quickly level up weapons.

Deathmatch Domination + Drop Zone is being added to the mosh pit playlist for players to rack up points with objective-based scores and kill scores. Gunfight Snipers 3 vs. 3 is also returning to the Modern Warfare multiplayer playlists. Although not the easiest way to level up quickly, the Gunfight Snipers game mode can test players' aim and strategy, and may help level up various sniper rifles.

Players can also jump into Warzone, which will be included in the double XP weekend. Warzone is bringing back the Mini-Royale Trios, which means players can experience faster-paced battle royale matches with the potential to boost their Battle Pass or weapon levels even more. Whether the goal is to complete the Battle Pass, or unlock Season 5's free guns, the ISO and the AN-94, this double XP weekend may be a great way for fans of the first-person shooters to finish up Season 5 and prepare for the start of Season 6.
