As many are stuck at home due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Activision and Infinity Ward have been providing players plenty to do with double XP weekends in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone. However, substantial issues with the games since their most recent updates made it difficult for players to fully enjoy the May 2 to 4 Double XP Weekend, so Infinity Ward announced it will be extending these benefits until Friday, May 8.

This means that players will be able to receive 2XP, 2X Weapon XP, and 2X Tiers for the entire week according to Infinity Ward's tweet today. Some of the problems the two Call of Duty titles have been facing are substantial impediments to play, such as increased matchmaking times and the latest Battle Pass not showing player progress as they compete in online matches.

While the developers of the incredibly popular first-person shooter titles are working on these kinds of issues, it's nice to see them acknowledge how annoying they may have been for some players. Social media sites like Reddit have been rife with fans posting about their frustrations with Modern Warfare's current state, so it goes a long way to at least let those fans know they have been heard.

Of course while bigger issues like matchmaking times are what vex Modern Warfare and Warzone players most, smaller bugs and glitches are still regularly being discovered. One particularly nasty exploit uploaded online this week involves a wall in Modern Warfare's Gun Runner map seemingly only applying damage to players shot through one side and not the other.

During its weekly briefing on the Call of Duty franchise, Activision has announced a number of things coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone even as different bugs and issues are being addressed on the backend. Among them are new game modes and playlists, as well as a new bundle for the operator Mace in the Call of Duty Store.

The fact that developers are not only continuing to add new content, but also going back and trying to fix issues as they appear is good to see given the long shelf life Infinity Ward expects out of Warzone in particular. Recently studio narrative director Taylor Kurosaki said he is "sure" they will support the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X once those consoles are released.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare & Warzone are available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
