Infinity Ward has released a surprise new update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare that is rolling out to all platforms. The update doesn't add new content to the game, but it does make some important bug fixes and balance changes, particularly when it comes to the .357 Snake Shot pistols.

For the uninitiated, the .357 Snake Shot pistols in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare have been considered overpowered for quite some time. The introduction of the Akimbo perk has made the .357 Snake Shot pistols that much more overpowered, with many players abusing the weapons on the smaller maps like Shipment and Rust. The new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare update "rebalances" the .357 Snake Shot damage. Additionally, a bug has been fixed that made .357 Snake Shot damage too high when shooting from longer distances.

While the most significant changes have been made to the .357 Snake Shot pistols in the new update, it includes some other changes as well. The update addresses various exploits that have been discovered in Ground War Infected, and it also helps to "prevent vehicle exploits," though specifics are unavailable at this time. It's possible that this is in reference to some vehicle exploits that have been discovered in Warzone where players were using helicopters to get under the map, but that has yet to be clarified.

The new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare update also makes some changes to the challenges related to smoke grenades. After downloading the update, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players will notice that smoke-related challenges will be easier to complete, in turn making it much easier to unlock the Bruen MK9 LMG.

Looking ahead, there should be even more Call of Duty: Modern Warfare updates in the near future. Infinity Ward updates Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the Warzone battle royale on a weekly basis, so fans should be able to expect the next update on Tuesday, May 12. Details on what that update will entail have yet to be revealed, however.

Here are the full Call of Duty: Modern Warfare May 7 update patch notes.
