Yesterday, Activision and Infinity Ward released a patch for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare that is fixing a ton of bugs. But these fixes don't seem to address the issues that Modern Warfare fans are most upset about. Most of the comments called for the removal of skill-based matchmaking (SBMM).

Fixes in the patch notes posted by Infinity Ward on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare subreddit included mostly minor fixes, patching up some exploits, bugs, and doing very little in terms of balancing change. But in terms of big overarching changes to the game, there wasn't much there.

Users in the comments most frequently decried SBMM. The skill-based matchmaking thats currently in the game allows top tier players to rig the system, making their games easier but ruining the experience for new players. The player base is largely in favor of replacing it with a new system. There was another major complaint that players brought up frequently as an issue.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players were very upset when the game replaced the Gunfight mode with Gunfight OSP. The 2v2 mode was a popular new addition to Modern Warfare. OSP is a variant of Gunfight where players don't start out with access to their loadouts, but have to find equipment to use by looting from the map . The big issue here is that players can't just choose with to play, but they have to wait for one to cycle out to play the other.

Although, its clear this is a minor patch. Infinity Ward has promised a content roadmap will be coming soon to the game and likely have many major changes in the works. Modern Warfare is a massive game in an environment where the expectations is to constantly provide players with new content.

There is also a battle royale map rumored to be in the works for Modern Warfare. Amid the number of recent issues, this possibility seems like a gleaming light of hope for fans unhappy about season 1, matchmaking, and the changes to Ground War. Blackout, the battle royale mode in Black Ops 4, was well received by critics and fans and could easily replace one of Modern Warfare's weaker modes like the Spec Ops co-op.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
