The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 3 update is out now, adding a wealth of new content to the game. As usual, this includes some new characters, like Alex from the Modern Warfare campaign, as well as a fan favorite character from a past Call of Duty game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 3 adds Riley, the dog from Call of Duty: Ghosts, to the mix. As one of the most popular characters in series history, it's no surprise that many Modern Warfare fans want to unlock Riley. However, not everyone will be able to unlock Riley, as there is an extra step players have to take first.

The first step Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players have to take to unlock Riley in the game is to purchase the Battle Pass. Unfortunately, Riley is not available in the free version of the Season 3 Battle Pass, and so players will have to spend at least 1,000 COD Points to get the dog. When that's done, the next step to unlocking Riley in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is reaching tier 20 in the Battle Pass, which is done simply by playing the game and earning XP.

Upon unlocking Riley, players will be able to use the dog as part of their Finishing Moves. To perform a Finishing Move in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, players need to sneak up behind an enemy player and hold in the melee button. Instead of simply hitting their opponent with a melee strike, this should trigger an extended animation that shows Riley going in for the kill instead.

It should be pointed out that Riley isn't the only dog that players can get in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Those that purchase the Talon multiplayer bundle will also be able to get a dog, though this one is named Indiana. Like Riley, Indiana is used as part of Talon's Finishing Move in the game.

Moving forward, it will be interesting to see if other characters or content from Call of Duty: Ghosts make their way to Modern Warfare. So far, Infinity Ward has focused on remaking Call of Duty 4 maps as well as maps from MW2, so it remains to be seen how extensively the developers will feature other games in the franchise.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
