The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare open beta is live, giving fans the opportunity to try the highly anticipated first-person shooter ahead of launch. So far, it seems feedback for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beta has been mostly positive, and it's even come with some eye-opening revelations about what the full game will entail. Users have already discovered that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beta has cross-saves across PC, PS4, and Xbox One, meaning the full game will likely support the feature as well, and now dataminers have dug through its files, discovering evidence that a fan favorite Modern Warfare 2 map may be making a comeback.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare dataminers have dug through the open beta's files and have discovered assets for the Modern Warfare 2 map Rust. Rust, one of the most popular small-scale maps in series history alongside Shipment and Nuketown, appears to be coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare relatively unchanged, which should be exciting news for old-school Call of Duty fans.

What remains to be seen is if Rust will be in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at launch, or if it will be added at some point after launch. Since players have already discovered assets for Rust in the beta, it seems possible that Rust will be in the game at launch. Then again, a post-launch update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare that added Rust would generate quite a bit of buzz, so Infinity Ward may be saving it for later.

Another possibility is that Rust isn't coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at all. It's possible that Infinity Ward toyed with the idea of having Rust in the game, but then decided against it. We won't know for sure until Activision or Infinity Ward decides to share more details and all of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer maps.

If Rust is in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it seems like it would be perfect for one of the new game modes. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has a 2v2 mode called Gunfight that thrives on smaller maps, and maybe Infinity Ward could use Rust to convince more players to try it out.

Whether or not Rust actually makes it into the final version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare remains to be seen, so fans should keep their expectations in check. But on the bright side, if Rust is added to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare post-launch, at least know it will be free since Modern Warfare doesn't have a season pass.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches on October 25 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
