Following a litany of leaks suggesting that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered would receive a standalone release, the video game publisher Activision has now confirmed as much by announcing that the title will be sold on its own on June 27, 2017 in both disc and digital download form for PlayStation 4 first. While this will likely be glorious news to the first-person shooter's fans, the company failed to acknowledge exactly when it will be coming to PC and Xbox One.

As seen below in the 2017 launch trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, fans are given a look at the game's single-player and multiplayer components, with both modes having been given an optimal graphical and audio overhaul from the original 2007 release. There's plenty of action on display, too, with snipers in ghillie suits offing enemies, grenade launchers blowing baddies to bits, killstreak reward airstrikes being called in, and much more.

The standalone release for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will mark the initial instance of the game's availability outside of its packaging with the special editions of Infinite Warfare, as it was originally not sold separately. Next week, however, PS4 fans will be among the first to be able to purchase the updated title on its own without having to spend additional money on Infinite Warfare if they don't want to do so.

The going rate for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered when it launches next week as a standalone for PlayStation 4 will be $40, but that is just for the base version of the game that comes with the single-player campaign and 16 multiplayer maps. Fans who want to own the variety map pack that released earlier this year will need to shell out an additional $15 in order to obtain the complete experience.

All things considered, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered being offered as a standalone release will undoubtedly excite the franchise's fan base, but it's worth stating that the game should have been sold this way all along instead of it having been coupled with Infinite Warfare. That said, though, if Modern Warfare Remastered were put out on its own alongside Infinite Warfare, the latter's sales could have dropped even more dramatically than its already less-than-stellar showing last year.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is set to launch as a standalone title first on PlayStation 4 on June 27, 2017, with PC and Xbox One versions to follow sometime soon.
