Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered Launches Variety Map DLC Pack

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Original Multiplayer Announcer Returns for Remaster - Crash multiplayer map

Though it may give longtime Call of Duty fans a bit of deja vu, Activision has just launched the first downloadable content pack for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered known as the Variety Map Pack. Ironically enough, the company did the same thing nine years ago back in 2008.

Just like the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare version, the Variety Map Pack introduces four maps into the multiplayer including Broadcast, Chinatown, Creek, and Killhouse. Just like the main game and the maps in the first free content update, all four of these maps have been remastered as well. Outside of nostalgia, longtime players may remember Broadcast from the Charlie Don’t Surf campaign mission, while Chinatown introduces a nighttime cityscape location filled with fog and neon lights for players to battle under. Creek opens things up in a larger forest clearing, while Killhouse adds a smaller map perfect for intense and fast paced firefights.

While the maps themselves may not be as new as advertised, the content drop also includes 10 "Rare" supply drops, guaranteeing players unique cosmetic items that would normally have been unlocked through gameplay or by spending money. It's worth noting that these Supply Drop microtransactions in general were not part of the original game, recently introduced to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered through a title update a few months ago.

Interested players can pick up the Variety Map Pack first on the PlayStation 4 for $15, five dollars more than the original back in 2008. A release window for Xbox One and PC players has not yet been given, but if history is any indication, this content should become available in about a month.

Considering the small price increase and the fact that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is only available in a more expensive premium bundle alongside Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, hopefully Activision has a few more free content updates  coming down the road to keep the fan base happy.

Should this map pack have been included in the package or are you comfortable purchasing this content? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One as bundled content with the Legacy Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
