The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered standalone release has once again leaked, this time with the most compelling evidence. While past rumors have done well to build a case that the Infinite Warfare pack-in might eventually be sold separately, the latest leaks have not only shown the box art but also included a release date.

Of course, COD fans should still take everything with a grain of salt, but it’s hard to dismiss the evidence. First up, several retail employees have leaked pictures of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered game packaging, complete with plastic shrink-wrap. It’s possible that these could be convincing fakes, but several different tipsters have posted the same box art, presumably from different retail outlets.

In addition to images of the Modern Warfare Remastered box art, these same leaks claim that the title will release on June 27th, one week from today. So far Activision has yet to announce anything regarding the standalone release, but if everything is legitimate then gamers should expect an announcement soon.

It's also worth mentioning that a followup rumor surfaced that claimed the standalone version releases on June 20th. That would essentially mean that Activision plans to announce Modern Warfare Remastered as a standalone title in step with it appearing on store shelves.

Despite everything Activision had said when Infinite Warfare first launched, most expected that the publisher would eventually package Modern Warfare Remastered as a standalone title. But Activision needed to make sure the focus stayed in Infinite Warfare sales, and to their credit the game ended up as the best selling release of 2016.

Now that Infinite Warfare’s time has passed and the focus has shifted to Call of Duty: WW2 – a significantly more buzz-heavy sequel than Infinite Warfare – it seems a no-brainer that Modern Warfare Remastered would strike out on its own. Activision no longer needs to push Infinite Warfare sales and cares only about generating sales of any kind.

For now it’s up to Activision to confirm whether or not the standalone title is real. The evidence is certainly compelling, but this isn’t the first time we have heard that Modern Warfare Remastered was releasing by itself and nothing became of those rumors. The difference here is that the rumor has a shelf life; if nothing is announced by June 27th then someone made a convincing fake.
