Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has seen numerous updates as of late, many of which have been designed around improving current content in the game’s multiplayer modes as well as Warzone. The latest update to the game has also added a new feature, and it should make Modern Warfare matches a bit more random going forward.

Popular Call of Duty news and leaks page ModernWarzone pointed out an intriguing feature in the update that “allows you to select ‘random’ for your operator.” The addition may seem a bit out of the blue, but for players who do not care which operator they play, or have skins for every character they want to show off, the “random” option should get some use. This part of the update may not have as much of an impact as the recent wave of bans for Modern Warfare cheaters, but the feature is a nice quality-of-life update from Infinity Ward.

Per ModernWarzone, quips and outfits will be randomly selected as well, cycling cosmetics for players in every match. Some of the outfits the game picks may include Modern Warfare's new Saw-themed cosmetics added to celebrate the Halloween season. With this crossover happening within the first-person shooter, it seems like the perfect time for a “random” operator selection to be added.

Some Modern Warfare fans like DanilFTC were quick to reply to ModernWarzone and point out the silly-looking black mannequin that appears when hovering over the “random” option. Some fans would no doubt enjoy playing as the hollow black outline, but a goofier operator like the mannequin seems unlikely given Modern Warfare’s realistic tone. There is still an operator who has yet to appear in Modern Warfare that was teased back in Season 5.

For those more interested in the gameplay tweaks that arrived with the newest update, it is worth noting that the SP-R208 has been nerfed yet again. The rifle launched in a broken state, with the developers forgetting to incorporate bullet drop and travel time. The weapon lost its accidental hitscan ability in a recent update, but it seems Infinity War found the weapon too strong even when working normally. With another powerful weapon being nerfed, other deadly guns like the AJAX will likely be seeing changes as well.

The update does not stop at its “random” feature, nerfed weapons, and banned cheaters for PC players, as some players can finally make the game smaller as well. With PC getting the option to delete Modern Warfare modes like the campaign and spec ops in order to free up storage space, hopefully console players will get the choice to do the same soon.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
