One of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s most powerful factors is nostalgia. Players are constantly asking for favorite Call of Duty guns, maps, and game modes to return. One data miner has discovered a fan favorite weapon that might be showing up in the game soon, and players are already excited about it: the R700 sniper rifle.

With the addition of the Galil and the Vector in the Season 4 release, Infinity Ward has shown that some favorite weapons will definitely be making an appearance in Modern Warfare and Warzone. Although some guns have seen changes from previous games—the Kar98k going from sniper to marksman class, for example—the inclusion of anything old is almost always a good sign for the players.

Data miner BKTOOR has discovered an unfinished model of the R700 sniper. While it isn’t completely designed, the fact that it exists in the game files at all shows that there is a good chance it will be added into the game. Fans of Call of Duty 4, the original Modern Warfare, will remember the powerful bolt-action R700. This sniper was a king of dropping enemies in one shot, and its new version should be just as deadly.

Since the weapon is unfinished, it is unlikely to make an appearance at the start of Season 5. BKTOOR even mentions that it might be a mid-season weapon. Releasing this powerful sniper halfway through the season might make more of an impact, as it won’t get lost in the initial Season 5 chaos. Releasing it later means that the new meta of weapons can establish, allowing this gun to shake it up.

In either case, the fact that Modern Warfare and Warzone players get to use one of the classic sniper rifles is very exciting. With some new tactics coming out for sniping, this addition is coming at the perfect time. While many people are complaining that they would prefer a different sniper—like the Intervention for example—the release of the R700 doesn’t mean other guns won’t be following behind it. Infinity Ward is showing no signs of slowing down content releases, and there are plenty of older Call of Duty weapons for them to choose from.

If fans aren’t excited about this gun in particular, perhaps the next one will be more up their alley. With the release of Modern Warfare Season 5 in a few days, there will surely be plenty of updates to keep everyone happy for several weeks.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
