Ever since it appeared on a ratings board last year, rumors have been swirling that Activision is preparing to release a remaster of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 campaign with no multiplayer component. This has confused many, as the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer was hugely popular back in the day, but if a new leak is to be believed, fans will still get access to the multiplayer maps at least.

This is according to Okami, a leaker who has accurately leaked Call of Duty news in the past. Okami claims that Infinity Ward is adding the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer maps to the 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare so as to "not split the community." Okami claims that they heard this news within the past week, but fans should take the information with a grain of salt. While Okami has been a reliable source of Call of Duty leaks in the past, it's always best to wait for an official announcement before getting too excited.

As it so happens, a number of Modern Warfare 2 maps have already been found in Modern Warfare game files in some capacity, so it wouldn't be a stretch to see them all properly added to the game at some point. However, it remains to be seen if they would be added all at once, or if Infinity Ward would instead opt to release them slowly over time like it's done with new multiplayer maps so far.

As it stands, there is currently one Modern Warfare 2 map in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Infinity Ward added Rust at the beginning of Modern Warfare Season 2, and it quickly became one of the game's most popular maps. However, there were many other popular Modern Warfare 2 maps that would make great additions to the Modern Warfare multiplayer map lineup, with fan favorites like Favela, Estate, and Terminal yet to be added to the game.

If the information is accurate and the MW2 maps are coming to Modern Warfare, one has to wonder what this means for original maps in the game. While there have been a few multiplayer map remakes in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare already, Infinity Ward has also released original maps like Atlas Superstore, Shoot House, and more. In fact, the next new multiplayer map coming to the game is a brand new map called Khandor Hideout.

Luckily, fans don't have to wait much longer to find out if there's any truth to Okami's claims. In a separate tweet, the leaker has claimed that official Modern Warfare 2 remaster information is likely coming on March 30.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
