Following a relative period of secrecy, Infinity Ward has since been pretty vocal with new information and details for its highly anticipated multiplayer modes in the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Just yesterday, the studio released 24 minutes of pure gameplay that showed off five new maps as well as five different modes. With even more details to share, the developers took to Reddit to reveal a few more major gameplay features.
The information comes directly from co-design director of multiplayer Joe Cecot in response to questions from fans. The first big returning feature to Call of Duty Modern Warfare is the inclusion of offline bots. Although it wasn't clarified which multiplayer modes would be compatible with bots, the news should no doubt make people without online services or perhaps those who just want to mess around offline happy.
From there, Cecot went on to also confirm the return of custom games, though not much else was given. At the very least, players will be able to change the traditional 2v2 Gunfight mode to instead be 3v3 or even 1v1. The latter is how Infinity Ward developers like to settle debates in the office.
The last major multiplayer feature reveal is a realism mode that players can enable for the maps similar to the Night Mode modifier that changes the player's view to be as if they're looking through actual night vision goggles. With Realism Mode enabled, the HUD is removed completely as well as crosshairs for the currently equipped weapon.
On paper, Call of Duty Modern Warfare appears to be one of the most content- and feature-rich entries that the franchise has seen in quite a while. In addition to a more mature single player campaign, players are also getting the return of Spec Ops and a multiplayer suite that has a huge range of available game modes from larger 20v20 battles all the way to the smaller 2v2 variant called Gunfight. With significant post-launch content plans that no longer include a season pass, Infinity Ward is hoping to keep players happy and playing for as long as possible.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches on October 25 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
