Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Season 6 content is in full swing, with the game getting plenty of updates featuring gameplay tweaks and brand new guns. One of those new guns is the JAK-12 shotgun, which is actually a returning gun from the series’ past and originally leaked as the AA-12 shotgun from Modern Warfare 2.

The JAK-12 essentially functions the same as the AA-12 shotgun from previous games, simply sporting a slightly altered name. Thankfully, unlocking the JAK-12 shotgun in Modern Warfare’s multiplayer mode shouldn’t cause players too much trouble.

Unlocking the JAK-12

The JAK-12 unlock requirements are not too demanding for players looking to unlock the shotgun relatively quickly. Unlocking the JAK-12 requires players to get three hipfire kills using a shotgun in seven different multiplayer matches. So while players are going to have to play upwards of seven different matches, the goal of three hipfire kills per match is very manageable. While the 1.28 patch changed Modern Warfare’s playlists for multiplayer, players should be able to unlock the JAK-12 in standard playlists like Free-for-All or Team Deathmatch.

Alternatively, modes where players tend to group up on specific locations, like Domination or Hardpoint, make for great modes to unlock the JAK-12. Players don’t have to get hipfire kills in subsequent matches to count towards the goal. Additionally, player can complete the challenge in any multiplayer mode and with any shotgun. As such, players should simply use the shotgun they feel most comfortable with while focusing on attachments that improve accuracy.

About the JAK-12

For those who haven’t used the AA-12 shotgun in previous titles, it’s a pretty unique shotgun in its own right. Modern Warfare’s JAK-12 is a fully-automatic shotgun. As such, the JAK-12 has an incredibly fast rate of fire for a shotgun which lends to quick kills in close quarter combat. Naturally, the JAK-12 has its downsides to offset it’s fast fire rate, such as high recoil and lower damage output, which might end up affecting its position on some Season 6 weapon tier lists.

Since the JAK-12 will be most effective at close-range by getting quick kills before the enemy has a chance to react, the ideal loadout will want to capitalize on certain qualities. Similar to Modern Warfare’s R9-0 shotgun loadouts, close-range builds for the JAK-12 will want to narrow bullet spread and increase accuracy. As such, attachments like the 5mW Laser, Choke, FORGE TAC Marauder, and Rubberized Grip Tape will probably be top picks for certain JAK-12 builds.

Hopefully, players have an easy time unlocking the JAK-12 shotgun. At face value, it’s a fun shotgun to use in small maps or inside buildings. However, whether or not the JAK-12 makes a splash in the Season 6 Modern Warfare meta remains to be seen. While the JAK-12 has stiff competition among Modern Warfare’s new guns, it may just find its own niche. Regardless, the JAK-12 is certainly plenty of fun when used in the right situation.
