Now that the Infinity Ward developed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been out for almost two weeks, players are already beginning to nail down their preferred set-ups and loadouts to overtake the competition online. While 2019’s Modern Warfare brings along decent amount of the series’ roots with it, there are still plenty of completely new and revamped additions to the core gameplay formula.

One of these revamped additions is the ultimate killstreak: the tactical nuke. The tactical nuke makes its long awaited return in Modern Warfare; however, the method and presentation of the tactical nuke, which debuted in 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, has been tweaked and changed slightly from its original appearance.

Getting the Nuke

Simply put, in order to call in a tactical nuke a player must get 30 kills in a row without dying using only the weapons in their weapon loadout. Meaning kills gained from killstreak rewards do not add to the tactical nuke killstreak.

In the purest sense, calling in a nuke in Modern Warfare is one of purest displays of skill present in the game. Knowing the ins-and-outs of a preferred weapon loadout, perk set, and equipment set is just one aspect of earning the nuke in Modern Warfare’s online landscape.

Knowing the Game

There is no surefire way for each and every player to earn the tactical nuke. It all comes down to knowing Modern Warfare inside and out, and ensuring that any given player has their preferred loadout nailed down completely. In the same vein, knowing each map inside and out is an excellent way to gain the advantage in online play.

In terms of playstyle, more defensive players want to know the best spots to hunker down and hold a position on a given map to steadily pick off kills. For a more aggressive playstyle, experiment and find the perks and loadouts that benefit this style of play the most.

Finding the Right Loadout

For a more aggressive playstyle, perhaps more close-ranged weapons like shotguns or submachine guns are the right fit. To increase speed and maneuverability, perks like Double Time, Ghost, and Cold-Blooded could help players move swiftly through maps undetected. Conversely, defensive players might try perks that increase survivability, like E.O.D, Restock, and Battle Hardened. Since killstreaks don’t add to the nuke killstreak count, trying out specialist mode is a valid option to get the most out of the available perks.

All in all, each player knows their playstyle best and what feels most comfortable. Experimentation and practice is the key to finding what loadouts and perks work best for earning the nuke in Modern Warfare. Of course, there are those weapons that some players are quickly finding to be over-powered, but it all comes down to individual skill at the end of the day.

The tactical nuke can be called in on nearly every game mode aside from Ground War, which has its own variant: the DEFCON nuke. While the road to earning the nuke in Modern Warfare seems incredibly daunting, it all comes down to personal to experimentation and practice.
