Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is getting updates on a weekly basis throughout Season 1 of the game, with each week bringing with it new content for players to enjoy. This week, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare fans can look forward to two new game modes to try out, one of which was previously tested in the Modern Warfare alpha.

Beginning Tuesday, December 10 and until Wednesday, December 18, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will feature Gunfight OSP and Infected. For the uninitiated, Gunfight OSP is a variant of the popular 2v2 Gunfight mode where players don't spawn with predetermined weapons. Instead Gunfight OSP players have to loot their weapons and equipment from the map, which adds an extra layer of strategy to the game mode.

Infected, meanwhile, should be familiar to longtime Call of Duty fans. Infected sees a player with enhanced abilities spawn with a knife, and their goal is to "infect" other players to their cause. The Infected team wins when all of the other players have been turned, whereas the human team wins if they manage to last the entire time limit.

Since Infected is a pretty popular game mode in many first-person shooter games, some may be disappointed to learn that Infected will only be in the game for a limited time. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has already been criticized for adding popular game modes only to remove them later, which it did with Gun Game and the Shoot House 24/7 playlist.

The backlash to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare removing Shoot House 24/7 in favor of Crash 24/7 was severe enough that Infinity Ward quickly reversed its decision. It's possible that if fan demand may see some of these other popular game modes stay in the game, but that remains to be seen.

For those wondering why Infinity Ward rotates the available game modes, no specific explanation has been given, but it's possible it has to do with keeping the various modes and playlists populated. It would be detrimental if Infinity Ward spread players too thin, though one would think that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare cross-play functionality would mitigate that issue somewhat.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Gunfight OSP and Infected will be available from December 10 to December 18.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
