So far, Infinity Ward and Activision have kept tight-lipped about what fans can expect from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's multiplayer offerings, instead focusing on the game's campaign mode. However, that will change soon, as a full reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's multiplayer is coming on August 1. To whet fans' appetites, the first-ever footage of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer was revealed today, showcasing a brand new 2v2 game mode called Gunfight.

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's 2v2 Gunfight mode, players compete in what are initially 40 second rounds, with the goal being to eliminate the other team. If 40 seconds go by and the teams are still alive, a flag will spawn in the middle of the map and the new goal is to defend that flag. If the time runs out again and there is still no winner, then the team with the most health wins (there is none of Call of Duty's signature health regeneration in Gunfight). Matches are best to 12, so the first team to win six rounds will take home the victory.

Additional details on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Gunfight mode were shared by YouTuber MrDalekJD. As he revealed, Gunfight will utilize random loadouts to keep things fair, not allowing players to create a class before jumping into the action.

When players compete in Gunfight in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, they will have at least three maps to battle it out in. This includes the Warehouse map called King, which MrDalekJD compared to fan-favorite Call of Duty maps like Shipment and Rust. The other Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Gunfight maps revealed so far are a forest map called Pine and a desert container yard called Stack.

One of the most interesting things revealed about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Gunfight mode is that it has built-in tournament features that let players instantly jump into a 16 team single elimination tournament. This should greatly appeal to Call of Duty players that desire a more competitive multiplayer experience.

Further details on Gunfight should come on August 1. It's then when we'll see a lot more of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer in general, and potentially learn about rumored game modes like Gun Game, Infected, and battle royale.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches on October 25 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
