The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare exclusive PS4 beta is proceeding excellently. Saturday morning the multiplayer beta opened up to all PS4 owners, expanding beyond just Call of Duty: Modern Warfare pre-orderers. That's not the only change that Infinity Ward has made to the beta, however. An open beta update has been issued that brings back the popular 2v2 Gunfight mode, a new Realism playlist, and more experimentation with the mini-map and teammate outlines.

The biggest addition to the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beta is the return of Gunfight. Sony previously hosted a PS4-exclusive alpha for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare that solely offered 2v2 Gunfight, though several different variant modes were available. This weekend's beta is giving Gunfight another spin. The 2v2 multiplayer mode will be available across three different maps, all of which were previously included in the alpha. The maps are King, Pine, and Stack.

Also new is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Realism playlist. Realism Mode is a really cool idea that a lot of tactical shooter players will appreciate. The mode disables all kill indicators and sounds, so that players are left figuring out the state of the match on their own. Communication with teammates is key. Headshots will also result in one-hit kills and body shots do much more damage. Realism is a high-intensity game mode where players with experience and high awareness will be rewarded.

Infinity Ward also continues its experimentation with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's mini-map, as well as shared information regarding teammates and enemies. Yesterday the mini-map was reenabled after two days being turned off. The mini-map will continue to be available today, but Infinity Ward has disabled teammate outlines in turn. Infinity Ward is likely to continue experimenting with shared information this weekend and into next weekend's beta.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is one of the most hotly anticipated releases of 2019 and Infinity Ward is taking advantage to great effect. This weekend's open beta is the second such public event, following a recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare alpha. A second open beta, or rather the second wave of the current open beta, will start on September 19. That beta will be on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and will feature Modern Warfare's new 64-player Ground War mode.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare releases October 15 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
