With its latest installment of the Call of Duty franchise, Infinity Ward has raised the bar in weapon customization. Each weapon in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has 103 unlockable skins with the most coveted, and the most challenging to acquire, being the master skins: Gold, Platinum, and Damascus. This guide covers how to get them.
How to Unlock Gold Skins
Like in previous games, gold camo is acquired in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare after every other weapon skin has been unlocked. This time around there are 10 categories, each with 10 variants. Here are the categories:
- Spray Paint
- Woodland
- Digital
- Urban
- Splinter
- Topo
- Tiger
- Stripes
- Reptile
- Skulls
All 100 of these standard skins in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare are attained by leveling up the weapon entirely and completing certain challenges like headshots and total kills. After that’s done and the gold skin is acquired, the next step is platinum.
How to Unlock Platinum Skins
If earning Gold skin means mastering a gun, then earning platinum skin means mastering an entire class. Put simply: the gold skin has to be earned for every gun in a given category (shotguns, assault rifles, etc.) in order to unlock platinum skin for the whole category.
Considering that the number of guns per category varies, some will take longer to unlock than others. In order from largest class to smallest there are eight assault rifles, six submachine guns, five pistols, four rocket launchers, four shotguns, four light machine guns, three marksmen rifles, and three sniper rifles.
How to Unlock the Damascus Weapon Skin
The only way to acquire the Damascus weapon skin is to achieve total weapon mastery by unlocking gold for every single gun and, in turn, platinum for every single class. All told, that means a total of 3,774 weapon skins must be unlocked for the master weapon skin to be available in multiplayer.
At this point it is unclear approximately how many hours of gameplay are required to accomplish this, but one thing is certain now that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available, committed gamers are digging in for the long haul.
